Allianz Roadside Assistance review

With two tiers to choose from, Allianz Roadside Assistance offers more choice to drivers but does come at a higher price point.

Our verdict

Pros

  • Choose your cover level, with Basic and Platinum options.
  • Towing for up to 100km is available for those who breakdown in a rural area, with the Platinum plan.
  • No joining fees.

Cons

  • Out of the roadside assistance policies we've analysed, Allianz is typically more expensive.

What does Allianz Roadside Assistance cover?

Allianz Roadside Assistance offers 24/7 support across Australia from experienced mechanics. Roadside assistance is typically used to help with; flat batteries or tyres, locked-in keys, running out of electric car charge, or needing fuel.

There are two memberships available; Basic and Platinum.

Basic membership

This covers essential roadside assistance services, including:

  • Breakdowns: Assistance for mechanical or electrical failures.
  • Flat Batteries: Jump-start services or coordination of battery replacement at your cost.
  • Flat Tyres: Help with replacing a flat tyre with your vehicle's spare.
  • Lack of Fuel: A top up of a small amount of fuel to get you to the nearest service station.
  • Other Fuel Problems: Assistance if incorrect or contaminated fuel is added to the vehicle.
  • Electric Vehicle Out of Charge: Arrangement of towing to the nearest charging station.
  • Key Issues: Help if keys are lost, stolen, or locked inside the vehicle.

Platinum membership

This includes all the services offered in the Basic membership, with the below additional benefits:

  • Bogged Vehicle Assistance: Recovery services if your vehicle becomes bogged.
  • Passenger Assistance: Transportation for you and your passengers if the vehicle cannot be mobilized.
  • Repaired Vehicle Delivery: Arrangement for the delivery or collection of your vehicle once repairs are completed.

Waiting periods before cover kicks in

There is a 48-hr waiting period that applies to both the Basic and Platinum plans after purchase.

However, if you've broken down and require immediate assistance, you can join and pay a $100 service fee for on the spot repairs. If towing services are needed, Allianz can help you organise the service, but it'd be at your cost.

Allianz has strong features and relatively high benefit limits. Roadside assistance policies are generally quite similarly-priced but Allianz is among the more expensive.

To show how Allianz compares to other popular roadside assistance services, we've included both the Basic and Platinum Plans in the table below.

Need to hold a car policy?* refers to whether or not you must hold a car insurance policy with the provider before you have access to their roadside assistance services. We've included this because some roadside assistance policies are standalone, others are only available as add-ons to car insurance policies.
Pricing is accurate as of February 2025.
