I just applied for the ANZ card last month, and was appproved this month. However, I noticed that the bonus points / rewards have dropped in between the period where I applied for the card, and when the card was approved. Assuming I meet the spend criteria (which has now also increased), do you know if i will be eligible for the higher points / cashback as per the terms and conditions at the time of application? Thank you

Hi Tristan,

That’s a tricky one. I think you should contact ANZ directly and ask to get the original bonus points offer if you can. However there may be some clause in the conditions that state approval by a specific date. But it never hurts to ask and sometimes a bank will just honour your request if you’re lucky.

Are paying your Mortgage payments and Council Rates eligible purchases

Likewise with direct debits for house / car insurances

Hi Scott, No, paying mortgage, council rates or insurance typically won’t count as eligible purchases. (Many insurers only allow direct debits from bank accounts, not credit cards.)

In order to avail the complimentary travel insurance with this card. Does it mean you have to used the card to buy airline tickets or you just have to spend the required amount in the first three months since I already bought the airline tickets few months back.

Hi Norman,

You’ll need to meet the eligibility criteria set out in ANZ’s policy information booklet, and the main criteria is:

* prepayment of, at least, $250 of your travel costs before leaving Australia, charged to an ANZ Black or Platinum credit card in your name.

So, if you purchase accomodation, car hire or other travel costs using your credit card, and you meet their other eligibility conditions (eg card not in arrears, you have a return ticket, aged under 81, Australian resident) this should activate your travel insurance.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

I had this ANZ card 2 years ago now, but under the Qantas FF point system.

Am I eligible for applying for this credit card again but for the velocity point system, and will I be able to get the velocity points?

Hi Dean,

The terms and conditions state that you are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months. As a current card holder, you are not eligible unfortunately. However there are many other frequent flyer credit cards with bonus points you can look at. Hope this helps!

Hi Fabian,

Yes, you can transfer these points to Qantas or Virgin’s Velocity Rewards program, or you can redeem them for rewards like gift cards, products, or even ANZ CashbackSuper that you can use to reduce the balance of your ANZ Rewards credit card, or add to your bank account.
