Dollar Saver Tip #4
Save: $608
Tip overview:
Did you know it's possible to reduce your plastic use AND save money? I'm Amy, our credit cards senior writer and Finder Green editorial lead.
I wanted to let you know we crunched the numbers and according to Finder analysis, you could save a massive $608 in a year by making greener choices. The key is to swap what you're using for more sustainable and reusable products.
Think: carrying a drink bottle with you instead of buying a drink when you're at the shops; taking reusable bags to the supermarket; using a keep cup for your daily coffee; storing items in your fridge in containers rather than cling-wrap.
Did you know?
Reducing plastic use also saves 0.05 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide per year from being released into the atmosphere.
I also take my own containers to a bulk food store and have found that some items, like oil and vinegar, are cheaper than at my local supermarket – so it's a win for my wallet and the environment.
There are plenty of other sustainable switches you can make that also save you hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars a year. You can also check out the 2022 Finder Green Award winners across categories including money, shopping, utilities, travel and transport and insurance.
