If you have various different term deposits of $250,000 each does the government guarantee them all.

Hi Michele,

According to APRA, deposits are protected up to a limit of $250,000 per account holder, per ADI (Authorised deposit-taking institution). To get the full benefit of the government guarantee, you could place your funds in different bank accounts with different banks, ensuring no more than $250k in each account.

Can a SMSF invest money in the 12 month fixed term with AMP

Hi Terry, AMP is currently only accepting online term deposit applications from personal customer and sole traders, not SMSFs. You can speak with the bank directly about opening an account for your SMSF.

Is it safe to transfer a large deposit into the term deposit online

Hi April,

Term deposits are one of the safest investment options available. Your deposit of up to $250,000 in a term deposit with an Australian bank is protected by the government’s bank guarantee scheme.

Thanks,

Alison

I want a monthly payout on a 24month term.

what is the interest rate.

what conditions, eg how much notice do you need if I have to access money

Avatar

Hi Greg,

For a 24-month term deposit with a balance between $5k-$25k the current interest rate offered by AMP is 3.60% (as of 8 June 2022). For balances between $25k-$100k, the rate is 3.65%. Please note that these rates do change frequently.

You can choose to receive interest payments in months instead of at maturity however, the interest rate will be reduced by 0.20%.

You must provide 31 days’ notice if you wish to access your money before the term matures, and an internal rate adjustment will be applied by AMP.

Thanks,

Alison
