Looking to open a savings account for my 15 year old. The BCU has a great interest rate but am i right in thinking that it is only till they are 13? If so, what alternative would you recommend?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for contacting Finder.

There is no minimum age requirement in opening the BCU Scoot’s Super Saver Account but this account is only available to kids under the age of 13.

You may consider comparing children’s savings accounts for your son. You can use our comparison table to help you find the account that suits him. When you are ready, press the ‘Go to site’ button to apply.

Please make sure that you’ve read the relevant T&Cs or PDS of this account to help consider whether the product is right for you.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,

Ash

Hi Deepa,

Thanks for reaching out.

This page is one of the banks that you may wish to consider for a child account. You can also compare children’s and kids’ savings accounts and new born bank accounts. Once you have chosen a particular account, you may then click on the “Go to site” button and you will be redirected to the bank’s website where you can proceed with your application or get in touch with their representatives for further assistance.

Please make sure that you’ve read the relevant T&Cs or PDS of the savings account to help you consider whether the product is what you need.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Mai

Hi Sebastian,

Thank you for reaching out to finder.

The funds in a bcu Scoot Super Saver Account can be accessed via Internet, mobile and telephone banking. You can also make over-the-counter cheque and cash deposits and over-the-counter withdrawals, while ATM and EFTPOS access are available as well. Six free staff-assisted withdrawal, deposit and transfer transactions are available per month, but a fee applies to ATM transactions. Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Reggie

Can I open a bank account for an unborned child?

Avatar

Hi Fabian,

Thanks for reaching out to Finder.

I’m afraid it’s not possible to open a bank account for an unborn child because a birth certificate will be required which shows the child’s gender and date of birth. Such information cannot be confirmed until the baby is born.

Once the baby is born, as a parent or legal guardian, you can then open an account in your baby’s name along with your name listed on it. You can ask your bank or any bank you are interested in opening an account with, for more information on the required documents and how to go about the process.

You may refer to our list of baby bank accounts if you are still looking to compare savings account for newborns.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Charisse
