Our verdict

With no international transaction fees and cashback on contactless purchases, this is far more than just a debit card.

You can link a NAB Platinum Visa Debit Card with your NAB everyday transaction account to get a few extra benefits and perks, particularly for travel.

This debit card does come with a $10 monthly fee, but in exchange you’ll pay no international transaction fees on overseas purchases both in store and online. In comparison, the standard NAB Visa Debit Card charges a 3% international transaction fee on overseas purchases.

You’ll also earn 1% cashback on tap and go purchases, capped at $10 a month cashback. This means that if you make $1000 worth of tap and go transactions in the month, you’ll get $10 cashback. This type of cashback offer is really rare for a debit card.

NAB Platinum Visa Debit Card holders are also entitled to complimentary travel insurances, and get access to NAB’s Concierge Service for assistance booking flights, hotels or even restaurants.

Pros

  • Receive cashback on contactless purchases
  • Access to the NAB Concierge Service
  • $0 international transaction fees
  • Pay no withdrawal fee at 7,000+ ATMs
  • Apple Pay available, and NAB Pay for Android

Cons

  • $10 monthly account fee applies
  • Cashback offer is capped at $10 a month

Hi Allan, this account is a debit card not a credit card. If you’re looking for a credit card you may find our credit card comparison helpful instead: https://www.finder.com.au/credit-cards

Hi Doug, we’d suggest getting in touch with NAB directly to ask about your included insurances, eligibility and documentation as this may change between customers.

Hi,

I am travelling overseas and want a card that I can use for a few weeks that doesn’t charge foreign fees. I am a NAB customer, so was just going to apply for the platinum visa debit card, but only want it for my overseas purchases, as it has a monthly fee. Can I keep both cards and cancel one when once I have finished my travel?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

Kindly get in touch with NAB if you consider getting 2 Visa debit cards. You may also consider using travel money cards while on holiday overseas as they prevent charging you foreign transaction fees like NAB’s Visa debit card. You may also learn your travel money guide of the country you’re traveling to by clicking the country on the left side of the travel money card’s page.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Cheers,

Jeni

Is the Nab Platinum Visa Debit card linked to my current everyday account with Nab or do I need to open a new account?

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for getting in touch with finder.

Since you’re an existing NAB customer, this card must be linked to your existing everyday account. Kindly contact NAB directly on this matter or upgrade to the new debit card from your mobile banking app or through Internet banking.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Cheers,

Jeni
