Our verdict

Bank of Melbourne’s Amplify Signature offers 150,000 bonus Amplify Points and a $199 annual fee for the first year, which goes to $295 p.a. after that.

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature is a premium rewards credit card that offers both a competitive introductory offer and ongoing features. The major drawcard here is 150,000 bonus Amplify points, which you can only collect if you spend at least $12,000 on eligible purchases in the first 12 months. This is different to credit card bonus point offers that have spend requirements over the first few months – and averages out to $1,000 of eligible spending each month in the first year.

Pros

  • 150,000 bonus Amplify Points
  • Discounted $199 first-year annual fee
  • 2 complimentary airport lounge passes per year
  • Complimentary overseas travel insurance for up to 6 months
  • Shopping cashbacks through ShopBack

Cons

  • The annual fee reverts to $295 after the offer period

Hi Scott,

From the bank’s website: The bonus Amplify Points will be added to your points balance within 12 weeks of the eligible spend criteria being met.

In other words, once you hit the $12K spending requirement, you only have to wait 12 weeks rather.

Do I have complimentary insurance on a rental car

Hi Claude, the complimentary insurance for this card does cover rental vehicle excess charges on overseas trips (provided you’ve booked at least $500 of travel expenses relating to the trip on the card). However, you may still want to take out insurance on the rental itself to cover accidental damage.

You say points are Amplify Rewards. Are these Qantas Frequent Flyer rewards and how and when are they sent to my QFF Points tally as I am a Platinum QFF Member

Hi Allan,

Yes, you can earn Qantas Points with the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature Qantas Credit Card. Details of the Qantas Points earned and transferred to your frequent flyer account will be shown on each statement. I hope that helps.

Hi There,

Just wondering if anyone knows whether it is ok to do the Qantas bonus points offers across St George, Bank of Melbourne? I read the fine print and it’s not excluded specifically, but only now refers to “Amplify” program so not sure if this is across their entire group.

Thanks!

How long does it take the card to arrive?

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for getting in touch with finder.

Since you are enquiring about earning Qantas bonus points if not an Amplify Signature Credit Card user, you can also refer to this link https://www.finder.com.au/credit-cards/bank-of-melbourne-credit-cards. As you can read from the said page, cards which are not Amplify are not earning Qantas bonus points. You can see them when you look at the table to compare the credit cards and check under Rewards Program tab.

I hope this helps. Should you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach us out again.

Have a wonderful day!

Cheers,

Jeni
