Most of Exetel's NBN plans are affordable. It offers some of the most reliable speeds as per its high-ranking results in the ACCC broadband performance reports. These reports are carried out quarterly and measure the reliability of advertised typical evening speeds for Australia's major NBN providers.
Exetel NBN is right for you if:
You want plans that deliver on the maximum typical evening speeds as promised. Based on Exetel's results in the ACCC broadband performance reports since August 2021, the provider has managed to deliver its advertised speeds at all times during busy hours. It also allows you to temporarily boost your speed 5 times a month on selected NBN plans for that extra push.
You're shopping for multiple connections such as a mobile SIM plan and would like to bundle and save a few bucks.
While Exetel has a lot going for it, consider:
If you decide to move on from Exetel, you need to give them 30 days notice to cancel. Some other providers allow you to cancel immediately and without the need of a notice period.
"I recently swapped from my previous NBN provider to Exetel. Not only did I save $10 on my monthly bill for my NBN but I also have much faster internet now. The process to switch to Exetel was really efficient and the communication of the next steps was super clear. They even offered to install the new fibre NBN for free. So far I've had a great experience with Exetel."
All of Exetel's NBN plan prices are slightly cheaper than the average cost of NBN plans on Finder. Its highly reliable speeds and promotional discounts for the first 6 months make Exetel a strong contender.Either bring your own modem or purchase the one that Exetel offers. Exetel's modem is slightly more expensive than the Finder average, but gives you the advantage of getting remote diagnosis and support for any network issues.
Things to watch out for:
Exetel requires you to give a 30-day notice for service cancellations. This isn't common for most NBN providers, so make sure you give it a month's heads up if you're planning to switch providers.
Performance
Exetel was ranked first for download speeds during busy hours of the day (7pm–11pm) in the ACCC broadband performance report for September 2024. It hit 102.50% of maximum plan speeds.
Why this matters: The ACCC report allows customers to see which NBN providers are delivering the speeds they've advertised, as a measure of reliability.
Exetel has routinely surpassed 100% on these reports, meaning it always delivers the advertised speeds on its plans during busy hours of the day.

Important information about this website
Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
