Goodtel NBN review

Our verdict: Goodtel's plans are a bit higher than usual, but this is offset by its role in supporting charitable causes.

Goodtel NBN review: Our verdict

Goodtel's main draw is its goodwill aspect where it donates 50% of profits to its charity partners. You have the option to choose which charity to support when you sign up to a plan.

This is balanced out by its fairly high prices. Apart from the NBN 25 plan, Goodtel's prices are higher than the Finder average for each speed tier by a couple of dollars.

You should consider opting for Goodtel if

  • You'd like to support a charitable cause through Goodtel.
  • Signing up to an environmentally friendly provider is important to you.
  • Availability of customer support throughout the week is a priority.
  • You'd like to try before you buy – Goodtel offers a 14-day trial so you can get a refund on plan fees if you're unhappy.

But you should also think about

  • Goodtel's prices are definitely on the higher side, so if you're on a budget, you may be better off elsewhere.

Value for money

Goodtel's plans are not the cheapest in the market, with only the NBN 25 plan being competitively priced.

It also lacks a lot of the introductory discounts that other NBN providers offer across their range of plans.

However, if signing up to a provider with a goodwill aspect is important to you, it might still be worth your money.

Goodtel offers a BYO modem option if you already have one from your previous provider, so you don't have to fork out an additional modem cost. Otherwise, you can grab one from Goodtel for $200, which is considerably higher than the average cost on Finder ($139).

Performance

Goodtel isn't included in the quarterly ACCC Broadband Performance Reports, so the reliability of its speeds can't be officially verified.

  • Why this report matters: The ACCC report allows customers to see which NBN providers are delivering the speeds they've advertised, as a measure of reliability.

Based purely on its advertised typical evening speeds, you can expect maximum speeds on all its plans, except NBN 250.

  • Good to know: Maximum speed is the fastest speed you can get on a speed tier. For example, NBN 100 plans will come with a maximum speed of 100Mbps.

Customer service

You can get in touch with Goodtel's team in the following ways:

  • Ring up the Goodtel call centre between 8am–10pm on weekdays, and 9am–6pm AEDT on weekends
  • Reach out via live chat on its website or sling the customer support team an email

Bonus features

Goodtel NBN gives you a couple of perks alongside its internet plans:

🗣️ Referral discount

Successfully refer a friend to Goodtel and both you and your friend will receive $20 off the next bill.

🆓 14-day trial

You can get a full refund on your plan fees if you're not satisfied with Goodtel's NBN connection within the first 14 days.

What if I'm moving house?
You can select a date during the sign-up process for when you'd like your new Goodtel plan to be activated. Keep in mind that it could take up to 4 weeks to get connected.

Be sure to give your current provider a heads-up in case there's a notice period to account for. You don't want to be stuck paying for 2 Internet services.
