What is School Entrepreneur of the Year?

School Entrepreneur of the Year is the most comprehensive entrepreneurship competition and training program for high school students in Australia. Finder has partnered with not-for-profit organisation Generation Entrepreneur to design and launch this initiative, with the inaugural tournament taking place in 2021. We're now officially on the lookout for Australia's most passionate, committed and proactive students to ultimately take the title of School Entrepreneur of the Year 2023.

How is the tournament structured?

Students will start by working their way through Generation Entrepreneur's Initiate 48 program, where you will spend 48 hours immersed in the world of entrepreneurship.

Here you'll learn key entrepreneurial skills such as problem identification, market research, product development, financials, gaining traction and pitching. These skills will form the foundation of your business idea as you prepare for the final pitch to our judging panel of industry experts.

The best teams from Initiate 48 and select in-school programs will move into the final round, held over a weekend where the teams will have their ideas fully stress-tested. The winning team at the end of the weekend will be crowned School Entrepreneur of the Year 2023.

How is Finder supporting this initiative?

Finder co-created the School Entrepreneur of the Year tournament with Generation Entrepreneur and has been involved at every stage of its development. We are providing significant in-kind support to Generation Entrepreneur hosting Initiate 48 in our offices, with our crew acting as mentors for the students at every stage of the tournament.

Members of our senior leadership team will act as judges for the final rounds and mentors for the winners. Our PR, marketing and publishing teams are also supporting Generation Entrepreneur in the background to make sure the tournament is a success.

Why is Finder supporting this program?

Finder was started by three Australian entrepreneurs who set up a simple website that compared credit cards and turned it into one of the most exciting and fastest-growing fintechs in the world. There is no doubt that innovation is at the heart of our culture and everyone that works at Finder is challenged to think differently, challenge the status quo and go live with ideas to see what works best.

We began our ongoing partnership with Generation Entrepreneur back in 2019 to take this innovative approach to business and share it with the next generation. Fast forward to today and we are excited to launch our biggest and boldest program to date. We hope to reach thousands of students through this program and, just maybe, we might help to inspire the entrepreneurs that go on to launch the next generation of successful Australian startups. Regardless, we know that all students that take part will gain real-world experience to help build skills in communication, critical thinking and collaboration.

Who is School Entrepreneur of the Year for and how do you enter?

The tournament is open to all high school students in Australia. Previous Generation Entrepreneur programs have been won by teams of students ranging from Year 7 all the way up to Year 12. There are two ways to sign up, either as a school team ($110 per team) or as an individual ($85).
