Our verdict

This mid-tier frequent flyer credit card offers up to 70,000 bonus Qantas Points and complimentary insurance, with a discounted $174 first-year annual fee.

The BankSA Amplify Qantas Platinum boasts a relatively competitive bonus points offer, especially when you compare the spend requirement to other frequent flyer cards with bonus point offers. To give you an idea of your points potential, you could book a family getaway to Byron Bay with four return economy flights between Sydney and Ballina (64,000 points in total) or fly solo with a one-way business class booking between Brisbane and Tokyo (68,400 points).

Pros

  • Up to 70,000 bonus points offer
  • $174 first-year annual fee ($199 p.a. thereafter), including Qantas fee
  • Shopping cashbacks through ShopBack
  • Complimentary travel and purchase insurances

Cons

  • The earn rate of 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent is lower than some other platinum cards
  • Does not offer airport lounge passes

The BankSA Amplify Qantas Platinum earns 0.5 Qantas Point per $1 on eligible credit card spending. Right now, you can also get 60,000 bonus Qantas Points when you apply as a new customer by 31 July 2024 and spend at least $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval. And an additional 10,000 points after the first eligible purchase has been made in the second year (70,000 bonus points total). You'll also save with a first-year annual fee discount of $174. The annual fee and rewards fee add up to $199 after the first year.

This platinum card also offers complimentary travel insurance and extended warranty insurance for eligible purchases. While its 19.49% p.a. variable interest rate for purchases is similar to many other frequent flyer cards, it means you’ll get more value from it if you can pay your account in full by the due date on each statement so you can get interest-free days for purchases.

Would I be eligible to get the Qantas bonus points even though I had a St.george amplify card less than 6 months ago?

Hi Steven,

Unfortunately you are ineligible as you need to have not held a card for the previous 12 months. You can compare other frequent flyer credit cards here.

I hope this helps,

Elizabeth

I had a Bank SA housing loan approx 1982-1988. Can I apply for this credit card?

Hi Wendy,

Yes, you would be eligible to apply. According to the terms and conditions, this offer is not available to “existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by BankSA, St.George or Bank of Melbourne, or who have held one in the last 12 months”. So, as long as you don’t have one of those cards and meet the other eligibility requirements, you can apply. I hope that helps.

Hi,

I currently have a St George Amplify Platinum, can I still qualify for the Bonus Points on signing up for this card? I know BoM Amplify Platinum had a ‘no ‘ clause if you had closed a BoM/St Geo/ BSa/Amplify rewards cards in the past 12 months?
