Hi Amy,
My wife and I are both self funded retirees and have grandchildren living in Singapore. We visit, sometimes more than once a year. We had a 28 degrees Mastercard for years, but now they want $8/Mth for not using it !!! We’re not self funded retirees by accident, we don’t pay fees for Nothing !!! Is it possible to walk into a branch, and chat with someone from Bankwest about this Zero Platinum Mastercard or must it all be done Online ???
Thanks for listening

Hi Graham,
That does sound frustrating! Unfortunately earlier this year, Bankwest made the decision to close their branch network. You can call them on 13 17 19 for more information about the Zero Platinum Mastercard, but note that Bankwest are moving towards becoming a digital-first bank. They have a call centre that operates 24/7, but their processes and systems are set up to encourage customers to solve problems through digital chat or online in the first instance. This may be frustrating for you, so it’s worth considering if this would suit your needs longer term?
You can review other options for credit cards with no fees on foreign transactions here. Best of luck!

On bankwest zero platinum with 0% purchase fee for 6 months, if I pay the total monthly balance each month after the 6 months period will the interest revert to the stated % or will I still not pay interest on my purchases? Thank you

Hello Narelle,
Once the 6 month 0% period is over, you will pay 18.99% on any current or future unpaid balance on your card. But you still have the 55 days interest free. This means as long as you pay off your balance each month before the interest charges kick in, you can still avoid getting charged interest.

What is a balance transfer fee? Transferring money from another source and putting your account in credit ? Taking money out of your account and transferring it to another account?

Hi Lynda,
A balance transfer is when you move an unpaid card balance from an old card onto a new card. Let’s say you have $3,000 on a card with a high interest rate. You could transfer that $3,000 balance to a new card with a 0% balance transfer offer. This would give you months/years to pay it off with no interest charges.
But with a balance transfer offer there is also a balance transfer fee. It’s a one-off fee of around 1-3% of the amount you transfer. So with the $3,000 example, a 3% balance transfer fee would be $90.

Hi Moira,
We can’t give you a clear answer on this one, unfortunately. Only Bankwest can.
The card doesn’t list a minimum income requirement but the minimum credit limit is $6,000. That means that card is for people who are bigger spenders. From the Bankwest website it also states you need to provide proof of employment and income.
You could call Bankwest and ask if the bank accepts, for example, income from super or investments as a form of income.
I hope this helps.
