Hi Emma, You’ll qualify for the insurance included with the card provided you spend at least $500 on the card for prepaid travel expenses – this would include your airfare. You also need to have booked a return ticket to Australia. The cover is detailed in the card PDS – it’s worth looking at that to see if it suits. If you want more extensive cover, you can compare your options here. Hope this helps!

Although there is 0% International transaction fee, is the transaction at the Mastercard rate or is there a spread applied by the bank?

Hi Lee,
Looking closely at the card terms and conditions it says that the bank converts non-AUD payments “using our current foreign currency conversion rates at the time we process it.” This suggests to me that the bank uses its own rates rather than Mastercard’s.

Is it possible to make overpayment into the credit card to increase the available credit?

Hi Fran,
Some quick research suggests this is possible. But I would add a couple of suggestions: if you’re going to add a large amount to your card for a big purchase, check with your bank first to see if it’s allowed. If you are making a very large purchase by card, check if the merchant will charge a card fee first. You may need to adjust your card settings if you’re going to spend a large amount in one go (if you’ve set a limit per transaction, for example).

If I pay my air tickets to USA and Canada, does the travel insurance covers? Or, what does the travel insurance covers?
