Hi,

As you are suggesting this as card suitable for a person who is retired. My situation is that I am looking at getting a credit card for myself as I am retired , aged 64 , so if anything happens to my husband, I have own personal card attached to my bank account for ongoing use. I has no separate income and as such dependant on partners income until I begin to draw a pension from my Super. My husband works full time,is 65 years old and intends retiring at 67. We own our home, have no other debts, bank with Westpac with a joint Choice savings accounts and have a shared Mastercard in my husbands name, that we pay off each month by direct debit. My concern is that I am unable to provide any income details and that it is not possible to discuss credit application details when you ring them as they require you to go online. If they reject my application it may affect my credit rating? The St George card appears to be a good option but I want to make sure I provide the right information to get the card.

Hello Peter,

We can’t guarantee any particular credit card is suitable for an individual as eligibility depends on so many factors. One requirement for this card is having at least 3 months of regular, taxable Australian income.

If you don’t meet this standard perhaps your husband could apply for the card and you could be listed as an additional cardholder. You can add a second cardholder for free.

I appreciate that getting a credit card can be a frustrating experience as you often have to apply before finding out if you’re eligible or not. A rejected card application will lower your credit score for a couple of months. It won’t cause any long term issues.

I hope this helps.

Hi, which petrol stations listed for Vertigo card? And is it only limited to Coles, Woolies Aldi or any shop?

Hi Mina,

Most major petrol stations and supermarkets are eligible as it is based on the merchant classification.

Here are details from St.George’s terms and conditions for this offer:

“Participating supermarkets and petrol outlets: Each supermarket’s and petrol outlets eligibility is based on its merchant classification. While most major and many independent supermarkets and petrol outlets are participating, those not classified in the Supermarket, Grocers and Service Station merchant categories will not be participating. Examples of supermarkets not participating include: Coles Express, Costco, Metropolitan Fresh and wholesaler supermarkets.”

If you have further questions, you can contact St.George on 13 33 30. I hope this helps.

Does the cashback only apply in the first 6 months of owning the card? once it expires is there a permanent cash-back offer? If not are there any credit cards in Australia that have a cash-back offer, low interest rate and a sign-on incentive bonus?

Hi Albert,

The cashback is a one-time, introductory offer on this card so there is no ongoing cashback. Only a few credit cards offer cashback on an ongoing basis, including the ING Orange One Rewards Card and BCU Rewards Credit Card. Finder’s guide to cashback credit cards has more details about different types of offers. You can also use the comparison table filters to help find and compare different cards. I hope this helps.
