Westpac offers credit cards you can compare for all kinds of goals, including 0% balance transfer offers, bonus points, low-cost options and business credit cards.
Westpac is one of Australia's Big Four Banks and offers credit cards for everyday spending, as well as cards for businesses. If you're a new customer, you can also compare Westpac credit card introductory offers that can give you cashback, bonus points or a promotional 0% interest rate.
Westpac Credit Card Offer
Westpac Low Rate Card
0% p.a. for 26 months on balance transfers with a one-time 2% balance transfer fee
Offer ends 30 April 2025
Eligibility criteria, terms and conditions, fees and charges apply
Westpac Credit Card Offer
The Westpac Low Rate credit card features a long-term balance transfer offer and a low variable purchase rate.
0% p.a. for 26 months on balance transfers, with a 2% BT fee
Annual fee of $59 p.a. and variable interest rate of 13.74% p.a. on purchases
Add 1 additional cardholder at no extra cost
Existing customers only: $0 annual fee for the first year
The Westpac Low Rate Credit Card and the Westpac Lite Card have variable interest rates that are much lower than the average standard credit card rate in Australia, which is around 20%. This gives you a way to save on interest charges for new purchases if you don't pay off your credit card balance in full each month. Both of these Westpac cards also offer annual fees that are competitive with other low rate cards in Australia.
Westpac balance transfer credit cards
Westpac balance transfer credit cards offer an introductory low or 0% interest rate when you move debt (or debts) from up to 3 Australian credit cards, store cards or charge cards that are not issued by Westpac.
At the end of the introductory period, any unpaid balance transfer amount will be charged interest at the card's variable cash advance interest rate. As this is typically high, you'll get the most value from the balance transfer offer when you focus on paying off the balance before you use the card for anything else.
Westpac low fee credit cards
The Westpac Low Fee Credit Card has a $30 p.a. annual fee, which is low compared to other credit cards that charge annual fees in Australia. It also offers an annual fee waiver if you spend at least in a year.
Westpac rewards credit cards
Westpac Altitude Rewards credit cards earn points per $1 on your eligible spending, which includes everyday shopping for groceries, dining, petrol and travel. You can redeem Altitude Points for gift cards, cashback and retail items. If you're a frequent flyer member, you can also transfer points to Velocity Frequent Flyer, Asia Miles, Air New Zealand Airpoints and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. Check out Finder's guide to Westpac Altitude Rewards for more details on earning and redeeming points.
Westpac frequent flyer credit cards
Westpac Altitude Platinum and Black credit cards give you a choice of earning Qantas Points or Velocity Points instead of Altitude Points. You just need to select the Altitude Qantas or Altitude Velocity option and include your frequent flyer membership details when you apply. Just keep in mind that there is a $50 annual rewards fee for choosing Altitude Qantas or Altitude Velocity, in addition to the frequent flyer credit card's annual fee.
Get more value: Beyond points, Westpac credit cards also offer a mix of other perks, ranging from complimentary travel and purchase insurance to airport lounge passes and a concierge service. Check the benefits for each card to see what it offers and compare your options.
No interest, flat fee card
The Westpac Flex is one of the few no interest, flat fee credit cards on the market in Australia. Instead of charging interest, it has a monthly fee that you only have to pay when you carry a balance.
This setup can make it easier to plan your payments because the amount you're charged when you have a balance never changes (and it could if there was an interest rate). The Westpac Flex Card is also one of the few cards to offer a virtual credit card you can use once your application is approved.
Westpac business credit cards
Westpac offers a range of rewards and low rate business credit cards. These cards give you a way to keep track of business spending, with features including additional cards for employees, fraud monitoring and export options for MYOB, BAS and Microsoft Excel. It also offers corporate credit cards for larger organisations.
What do Australians think of Westpac credit card provider?
3.75/5 overall for Customer Satisfaction — lower than the average of 4.06
3.98/5 for Trust — lower than the average of 4.4
3.79/5 for Customer Service — lower than the average of 4.06
Westpac credit cards can be added to the following mobile wallets and apps:
Apple Pay
Google Pay
Samsung Pay
Fitbit Pay
Garmin Pay
Westpac Extras
This complimentary program gives you access to cashback offers with well-known brands and stores in Australia. You'll see the latest offers when you log in to Westpac Live. You can also sign up to get offers emailed to you. When you get an offer, you just need to shop at the store and pay with your eligible Westpac credit card, and the cashback will be added to your account as a statement credit.
You can get Westpac Extras offers with any personal Westpac credit card, but not with the Westpac BusinessChoice, Westpac corporate credit cards, Westpac consumer or business debit cards. Also keep in mind that payments made through platforms like PayPal are not eligible to earn cashback.
Westpac SmartPlan credit card instalment plans
Westpac SmartPlan lets you pay off your credit card balance in regular, monthly instalments. This means you'll pay the same amount for your plan each month. Some SmartPlans also offer a reduced interest rate, with 2 main types to choose from:
Large Purchase SmartPlan. You can set up a Large Purchase SmartPlan for any single purchase worth $500 or more as long as it's been made in the past 30 days. This makes it suited to individual big-ticket items bought with your credit card, such as a new laptop, flights or hotel bookings. Keep in mind that establishment fees apply and will be shown before you set up a plan.
Balance SmartPlan. This option allows you to set up instalments for any credit card balance of $200 or more.
You can set up a Westpac SmartPlan in a few clicks through online banking or the Westpac App. Just note that SmartPlans are not available if you have the Westpac Flex Card.
How do I cancel my Westpac SmartPlan?
You can cancel your SmartPlan at any time through Westpac online banking or the Westpac app. There are no cancellation fees and it will take up to 2 business days to confirm the cancellation.
Westpac PartPay
Similar to buy now pay later, Westpac PartPay lets you split purchases of $100 or more into 4 fortnightly repayments. The repayments come out of your nominated bank account and there are no additional fees as long as you have enough money in your account for each fortnight's automatic repayment.
If you have an eligible Westpac credit card, you can set up PartPay through the Westpac App and will get a digital card (linked to your credit card account). Then, just use your PartPay card to make any purchases you want to pay for in instalments.
Annual fee waiver - home loan offer
With a Westpac Home Loan Premier Advantage Package, you can get the annual fee waived on one of the following credit cards:
Existing customers may also get a fee waiver for an eligible credit card that is no longer taking new applications. Just note that the Advantage Package only offers one credit card fee waiver per package.
Security features
Westpac credit card security includes 24-hour fraud protection monitoring services for your account, added online security through Mastercard Identity Check and Visa Secure and an online transaction security guarantee to ensure you're not liable for online transactions made without your knowledge or consent.
The Westpac Global ATM Alliance network
When you get a Westpac credit card, you can use it to withdraw cash for free at ATMs that are part of the Westpac Group. This includes ATMs offered by Westpac, St.George, BankSA and Bank of Melbourne. You can also save on ATM withdrawal fees worldwide thanks to the Westpac Global ATM alliance.
Eligibility criteria
If you want to apply for a Westpac credit card, the next step is to make sure you meet the eligibility criteria.
Each card has slightly different details for who can apply, but all Westpac cards include the following:
Income. You'll need to have a regular income to apply for a Westpac credit card.
Australian residency status. You can apply for a Westpac credit card if you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Some cards also accept applications from people with eligible visas – when that's the case, you'll see details about it before you start the application.
Age. You must be at least 18 years old.
How long does it take to apply?
You can apply for your Westpac credit card online in around 10 minutes. Once you complete the application, Westpac will contact you with an outcome and/or details about the next steps.
Information and documents you need to apply
Personal information. Your full name, date of birth, Australian residential address and details about your current living situation. If you're new to Westpac, you also need to provide identification, such as your Australian driver's licence, passport, Medicare card or birth certificate.
Financial details. Your regular income and any other assets, including savings or investments. You also need to include details of regular expenses such as mortgage payments, rent, utility bills and groceries.
Details if you're employed full-time or part-time. Your salary, job title, employer and any supporting documents Westpac requests, such as recent payslips.
Details if you're employed casually. You'll need to show that you have been working for the same employer for at least 6 months.
Details if you're self-employed. You'll need to show that you have been operating for at least 18 months and include your most recent Tax Assessment Notice from the Australian Taxation Office.
Acceptable income from other sources. This could include income from other employment (e.g. a second job), rental income, superannuation or pension income, dividends and interest received or one of the following government payments:
Aged pension
Widows pension
Disability support pension
Family tax benefit part A or part B
Card details
Depending on which card you're applying for, you could be asked about the following details as part of the application:
Credit limit. If you have a credit limit in mind, you can include that as part of the application. Just be aware that Westpac will offer you a credit limit based on its assessment of your application, which could be lower than the one you've requested. Also note that you won't be asked about a credit limit for the Westpac Flex, as it only offers one credit limit.
Balance transfer information. If you want to transfer a balance to a Westpac credit card, you'll need to provide details of the debt that you want to transfer, including the account name, number and financial institution's BSB.
What happens after you apply?
Westpac will email you an application reference number. You'll also get details about providing more supporting documentation (if that's needed), or next steps.
Have a question about the application? Call Westpac on 132 032 to talk about your situation.
Credit card brands similar to Westpac
If you want to compare Westpac credit cards to those from other lenders, you could consider the other Big Four Banks in Australia:
There isn't one best Westpac credit card that will suit everyone, because people get credit cards for all kinds of reasons. But the 2023 Finder Credit Card Awards used expert analysis of 12 months' worth of data to determine the best credit cards and Westpac credit cards were recognised in the following categories:
Keep in mind: There's no one best credit card for everyone, so check details that matter to you. You can also view the full list of 2023 Finder Credit Card Awards, including details of the methodology for each category to help decide if one of these cards is right for you.
If you're an existing Westpac credit card user, you can choose to make your repayments using any of the following:
BPAY
BPAY gives you a way to pay your Westpac credit card from another bank account. You need to make the payment through your bank's online banking platform, and require the following details:
Biller name: Westpac Cards
Biller code: 5181
Reference number: Your Westpac credit card number
Card AutoPay
You can set up automatic payments using your Australian savings or transaction account. If you wish to set up automatic payments using an existing Westpac account, you can do so through online banking or by calling 1300 130 961 (8am-8pm, 7 days a week). To use an account with a different financial intuition, you have to take a completed Card Autopay Request form into any Westpac branch along with your ID.
When setting up your automatic repayments, you can choose to pay a set amount of the closing balance, a percentage of the closing balance, the minimum payment due or the full balance.
Transfer from an existing Westpac account
Existing transaction account holders with Westpac get three ways to make repayments towards their credit card accounts:
Login to Westpac's online banking platform and transfer funds from your transaction accounts to your credit card accounts
Use Westpac's phone banking platform and authorise payments towards your credit card accounts
Make repayments by visiting your closest ATM and transferring funds from your transaction accounts to your credit card accounts
Make payments at a Westpac Branch
If you live or work close to a Westpac branch, you can simply walk into a branch and make your repayments during opening hours. Most Westpac branches are open between 9:30 am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
You must make at least the minimum monthly payment, and you also have the option of paying more each month. Paying as much as you can towards the outstanding balance will help minimise the interest you pay. Here are the key details:
The greater of 2% of your closing balance or $10; and
The greater of any unpaid past due amounts from previous statements or any amount that exceeds your credit limit.
If your closing balance is less than $10, you must repay the full amount.
To transfer your existing credit card debt to a Westpac credit card under a balance transfer promotion, proceed through the online application as normal. You’ll be asked whether you want to transfer a balance when it comes to the point of the application where you’re asked about your financial situation. Enter the card number, the amount you want to transfer and select the name of the institution that provides the card. See our guide on how to conduct a balance transfer with Westpac for further information.
You can transfer up to 80% of your approved credit limit to a Westpac credit card.
You must make a payment to your credit card every month as advised by your monthly statement. Your statement will note when the payment is due and what minimum payment is required. The minimum payment will be equal to 2% of the closing balance or $10, whichever is greater – added on to any unpaid due amount. If you need to move your statement date so it coincides with your pay, then you can call Westpac to discuss this.
You can activate your new Westpac credit card online or through the Westpac mobile app by logging in and following the prompts. You can also activate it through phone banking by calling 1300 308 930.
You can cancel your Westpac credit card account in a few minutes through Internet baking or the Westpac App at any time. You could also cancel your account by calling Westpac on 132 032 or by visiting a branch. Just keep in mind that you will need to make sure there are no outstanding payments before the account can be fully closed.
If you have misplaced your Westpac card, you have the option of temporarily locking it so that no unauthorised transactions are made. You can do this online or through the mobile app using the following steps:
Log in to your account.
Go to "Services and preferences" if you're online, or "Services and security" if you're using the mobile app.
Go to the "Card services" section and select "Lock a card temporarily".
Choose the card you want to lock. A padlock will appear next to it to show that it is locked.
You can also unlock your card from this screen in online or mobile banking. Otherwise, this "card on hold" service will last for a maximum of 15 days before it is unlocked again. If you haven't found your card at this time, you should report it through your online or mobile account. Alternatively, you can report a lost or stolen card by calling 1300 130 961.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your inquiry.
Sorry for the delayed response. Most credit card companies vary when it comes to setting eligibility requirements and criteria. But generally, your approval will be based on their assessment of your income, credit rating and ability to repay.
As finder.com.au does not represent Westpac (or any other credit card company), we won’t be able to advise if you will be approved for a Westpac credit card or not. You’d be best if you contact Westpac directly and discuss your chances of approval before you submit your application. That way, you can avoid enquiries on your credit file and you’ll be able to keep it healthy.Â

Hi, I would like to apply for a $0 balance credit card. Paying out an Ignite account. This account was initially through Virgin credit cards, however, Westpac took over Virgin + it was changed to Ignite. Am I able to apply for $0 balance transfer from Westpac or do I need to go through another bank? I don’t consider myself an existing customer, as it was not Westpac whom we initially applied for the Virgin card. What is your knowledge of this?
