Our verdict

Offers up to 120,000 bonus Altitude Points, a discounted annual fee in the first year and up to 3 points per $1 on eligible spending.

The Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card is suited to people who want flexible rewards and a competitive annual fee (for this type of card). A key feature is the higher number of points per $1 earned with partnered brands including Qantas, Jetstar, Uber and Spotify Premium – earning up to 3 points per $1. You can also get 90,000 bonus Altitude Points when you apply as a new cardholder by 30 November 2024 and spend $3,000 or more on eligible purchases in the first 90 days. Plus 30,000 bonus points after your first eligible purchase in the second year.

Pros

  • Up to 120,000 bonus Altitude Points offer
  • First-year annual fee: $49 for new customers or $0 for existing customers
  • Earn up to 3 Altitude Points per $1 spent, uncapped
  • Complimentary travel insurance covers

Cons

  • The standard annual fee of $175 p.a. is relatively high
  • Only offers up to 45 days interest-free on purchases, as opposed to most cards with 55 days
  • Tiered earn rate makes points potential more difficult to estimate

The Westpac Altitude Rewards Platinum Card earns between 1 and 3 points per $1 on eligible spending, with the highest earn rate offered to flights booked with Qantas or Jetstar. It also has a 20.99% p.a. variable interest rate for purchases if you’re not eligible for interest-free days. It doesn’t come with other travel perks like airport lounge passes or vouchers that you can expect with more premium rewards cards – but they often have higher annual fees too.

If I get this card but have to cancel it in the future will I lose all my points?

Hi Hans, Yes, if you cancelled the card you’d lose any points – the strategy in that case would be to convert your points into cashback or transfer them into a frequent flyer program before cancelling the card, so you don’t miss out. Hope this helps.

Westpac Black and Westpac Platinum cards – what exactly does Travel Insurance cover?

Avatar

Amy Bradney-George Finder

August 04, 2023

Hi Ivan,

Westpac Black credit cards offer complimentary, comprehensive international travel insurance for trips of up to 6 consecutive months – which includes benefits related to hospital and medical emergencies, cancellation, luggage and travel delays. With Westpac Platinum cards, the cover is available for trips of up to 3 consecutive months. Different claim limits also apply, so it’s a good idea to view the full policy document available on the bank’s website. Alternatively, you could call the insurance provider, Allianz on 1800 091 710. I hope this helps.

Hi, I had this card previously but cancelled it in December last year. Will I still be eligible for the Qantas points if I apply? Thanks!

Hello Dos,

Thank you for your comment.

According to the terms and conditions of Westpac Altitude Platinum Card, existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. Therefore, you’re not eligible to receive the bonus points if you reapply, unfortunately.

Regards,

Jhezelyn

What is cancellation fee for this Altitude Platinum credit card? Also if I apply for one more card from other bank, would that effect getting this

Altitude Platinum credit card?

Hi Muhammad,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

There’s no cancellation fee if you cancel this card. If you apply for another credit card from a different bank, it will not affect your application for this card unless there are too many credit enquiries or card applications which results to a low credit limit.

Please make sure though to read the eligibility criteria, features, and details of the card, as well as the relevant PDS/ T&Cs of the card before making a decision and consider whether the product is right for you.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Cheers,

Jeni
