AGL review

AGL is one of Australia's 3 largest electricity and gas retailers. While its plans tend to offer a bit more in the way of features and rewards, they also come at a slightly more premium price in .

The good news is there are monthly billing options to help manage the cost of your plan as well as no lock-in contract.

Pros

  • Access to a range of discounts with AGL Rewards - just by signing up
  • Mobile app to track usage and manage your plan
  • Live chat support available
  • Options to bundle your energy and internet plans. This can save up to $35 a month for the first 6 months

Cons

  • Rated poorly for environmental friendliness
  • Credit card fees apply

Green Energy

Is AGL environmentally friendly?

Green Electricity Guide Rating: 1.2/10

Greenpeace's Green Electricity Guide consider AGL the least green energy provider.

It's Australia's biggest climate polluter and plans to burn coal until 2035 in addition to mining coal.

Despite this, AGL does participate in green initiatives. For example, you can purchase accredited GreenPower on all its plans. This allows AGL to send renewable energy back to the grid on your behalf.

You can choose equal to 20% or 100% of your household electricity consumption from renewable sources at the following rates:

Percentage of GreenPowerCostCost per quarter
20% of GreenPower
$1 per week
$12
100% of GreenPower
4.4 cents per kWh
$55

Ready to sign up with AGL?

If you'd like to sign up to AGL's plans, click the green button. This will take you to AGL's website where you can enter your details and sign up.

  • Once you've made your request, AGL will take care of everything in the background. The switching process should be done in 2 business days. You'll be connected to power the whole time.
