Customer service score: Alinta vs AGL

Retailers are assigned a Finder customer service score based on how well they respond to customers and handle problems. This is distinct from more subjective customer reviews, and includes factors like call centre hours, complaints handling, financial difficulty and more.

AGL scored much higher than Alinta Energy, with a whopping 5 stars out of 5, the highest any retailer scored. Alinta Energy scored 4.1 stars, in comparison.

Verdict

AGL has some useful incentives for signing up, including fixed rate plans for 12 months plus solid Flybuys points rewards for customers who value those. Alinta's main incentive is access to its Rewards Shop, which has discounts for current customers on movie tickets, theme parks, electronics and more.

Alinta has no GreenPower options for environmentally conscious customers, but AGL provides 10%, 20% and 100% options on its full range of plans. AGL has a comprehensive mobile phone app which allows you to easily manage your account, something that Alinta lacks.

AGL wins out when it comes to customer service, too, scoring a perfect 5 stars on the Finder customer service scale. Alinta is not too far behind at 4.1 stars.

Overall, AGL may not always be the cheapest across Australia, but it has many attractive features that Alinta doesn't. Still, the best choice for you will depend on your energy needs and the plans available at your address.

Important notes: The estimated price we show by default is based on a single rate tariff. On your bill this might be known as a "peak tariff", "peak only" or an "anytime tariff". There are other tariff types available to customers and you may need to contact your provider if you are on these tariffs:

  • Single rate with a controlled load
  • Time of use
  • Time of use with a controlled load

The price estimate should not be used as an official quote, but an indication of what your costs may be on the plan. It varies based on whether you provide us with your bill details. You can learn more here.
