Pacific Blue

Pacific Blue review

Pacific Blue will favour those looking to reduce their environmental impact over having an electricity plan with low prices or bells and whistles, such as a rewards program or an app to track energy usage.

The electricity retailer's parent owns and operates a mix of wind, solar and hydro generation assets.

The focus on green energy is clear across its slate of plans. For example, you can opt for a 100% carbon-neutral plan or pay more and sign up for a 100% renewable electricity plan.

With this plan, Pacific Blue will purchase GreenPower equivalent to 100% of your electricity usage from renewable energy sources.

Good to know: Pacific Blue Hydro launched Tango Energy in 2012 to offer energy plans to households in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA.

Pros

  • 100% carbon-neutral electricity plans at no extra cost to you
  • Supports the generation of renewable energy in Australia

Cons

  • Direct debit and monthly billing required on its Blue First plan, which is usually the cheapest

Green Energy

Green energy

We normally look at The Green Electricity Guide by Greenpeace in order to work out the green credentials of different providers.

However, Pacific Blue was not included on the list as it's fairly new to the market.

It also doesn't offer GreenPower, which is a government initiative allowing the retailer to measure and match your power usage with renewable energy to the grid.

But to its credit, it owns and operates green energy sources and offers 100% carbon-neutral plans at no extra cost.
