finder Awards 2017 product methodology
Here's an overview of how we assessed each of our 20 product categories for the 2017 finder Awards. You can find a more detailed overview in our full methodology document.
Credit cards
We looked at a combination of metrics, including annual fees, purchase rates, balance transfer periods, balance transfer fees, bonus reward points and reward point earn rates. Each category had a different metric combination, as well as a different weighting per metric.
Home loans
We looked at a combination of metrics, including ongoing fees, establishment fees, offset accounts, interest rates and LVRs. Each category had a different metric combination, as well as a different weighting per metric.
Loans
We looked at a combination of metrics, including interest rates, length of loan, secured or unsecured and minimum to maximum loan sizes. Each category had a different metric combination, as well as a different weighting per metric.
Banking
For accounts, we looked at a combination of metrics, including interest rates, ATM fees, monthly account fees, minimum deposit amounts and introductory rates. For travel cards, we looked at the number of currencies, ATM charges and initial and reload fees. Each category had a different metric combination, as well as a different weighting per metric.
Insurance
We looked at a combination of product features including excess fees, premium costs, variety of items insured and policy limits. Each category had a different metric combination, as well as a different weighting per metric.
Mobile plans
We looked at a combination of metrics, including recharge value, data inclusions, network, duration and cost per megabyte. Each category had a different metric combination, as well as a different weighting per metric.
