Alinta energy was propelled to the top of our list with its Australian-based call centre and extended trading hours, helping the provider score highly on customer service. Alinta's competitive feed-in tariffs, reward programs and ability to track your energy usage was also a winner as users ranked it highly on value for money – 90% of users would recommend the provider.

Red Energy was a worthy runner up, falling just a few points short of Alinta Energy. The provider scored highly for its customer service and for being 100% Australian owned and operated. Customers also liked the features on offer, such as its deal with Qantas Rewards. Overall, 87% of those we asked say they would recommend the provider.

Taking out the bronze medal in this year's Solar Energy Customer Satisfaction Awards was Energy Australia. The provider scored highly among customers for ease of application, with Energy Australia allowing you to sign up in just a few easy steps and providing a stack of information about solar. It also offers strong customer service including an in-built "chat with us" functionality.
