Australian Seniors health insurance is issued by nib, one of Australia's biggest and longest running health funds.
Australian Seniors has a Silver Plus tier custom made for older Australians. It's similar to a Gold policy, but without high cost treatments like child birth and reproductive services. That makes it more affordable for seniors, who are less likely to use those services.
I called to ask a quick question about their Gold Policy while writing this article, and they were very nice.
Cons
The top Silver Plus policy doesn't cover some potentially important categories, including weight loss surgery and dialysis for chronic kidney failure. A full gold option is available over the phone, but you'll need to bundle it with extras.
Australian Seniors doesn't have a Basic tier hospital policy. That's okay, as they provide very little actual cover, but if you're only after a policy to avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge, there are cheaper options.

Australian Seniors has some well priced policies, including some that are custom made for older Australians. While owned by Hollard, one of the biggest insurers operating in Australia, the health insurance product is issued by nib, giving it access to the entire nib network of agreement hospitals.

You want a standalone Gold hospital policy.
You only want a Basic tier hospital policy to avoid the tax impacts of not having cover.
