Kogan Mobile's selling refurbished iPhones on a plan in case you want to avoid buying a new handset outright.

You can now get an Apple-approved refurbished iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 on a phone plan from Kogan Mobile starting from $15 a month.

There's 2 ways to go about it. You can either sign up to an "own and pay" plan or choose the "subscription" plan instead.

In both instances, you only need to pay off the cost of the device each month and won't need to pair your phone with a mobile plan from Kogan (unless you want to).

With the own and pay plan, you sign up and pay off the cost of your handset over 24 months.

It's the only contract period available via Kogan Mobile although you do have the option to buy outright.

On the flipside, Kogan Mobile's subscription plan works more like a lease, with slightly lower monthly costs.

You sign up for a 24-month contract at the end of which you'll need to return the phone, or you can upgrade it in the last 6 months of your contract.

Here's a look at the costs per month across both types of plans.

Own and PaySubscription
iPhone XS$18 per month$15 per month
iPhone 11$25 per month$20 per month
iPhone 12$32 per month$28 per month
iPhone 13$48 per month$40 per month

If you want, you can pair your phone with a SIM-only plan from the telco:

  • $10 per month for 10GB
  • $25 per month for 40GB
  • $40 per month for 80GB

Alternatively, Kogan Mobile's long-expiry prepaid plans are worth checking out. The telco won the 2023 Finder Award for Best Long-Expiry Prepaid Plan.

They're value for money with features such as instant eSIM set-up, Wi-Fi calling, and offer the option to earn Qantas Points for every 2 dollars spent.

Are Kogan Mobile's iPhone plans worth it?

According to Kogan Mobile, the iPhones will have minimal signs of wear and a battery that has at least 80% capacity.

You'll need to decide if that's something you're okay with, whether you plan to own the phone or lease it.

Compare the cost of buying a brand new phone outright versus getting a refurbished phone from Kogan Mobile.

For example, a brand new iPhone 13 (128GB) is currently retailing for $1,229. With Kogan Mobile, you're paying $1,152 if you want to own it at the end of 24 months. That's barely any difference.
