Our verdict
It's fully underwritten and issued by NobleOak, the Finder Awards winner for Best Life Insurance.
You can be covered for up to $15,000,000 – the second highest sum insured compared on Finder.
It's good for price. On average, it's among the cheapest life insurance policies available on Finder.
Looking for a little flexibility? Total and permanent disability (TPD), trauma insurance and income protection are optional add-ons.
It only offers stepped premiums (these increase in price as you age).
Funeral advancement is only $15,000. It should be enough for most but TAL and Australian Seniors both have higher benefits.

Why compare life insurance with Finder?
You pay the same price as buying directly from the life insurer.
We're not owned by an insurer (unlike other comparison sites).

Budget Direct's life insurance is a product designed for Australian residents aged from 16 to 69 that meet Budget Direct's health and lifestyle requirements. It comes with the following benefits:
Life insurance. Your beneficiaries can receive up to $15 million when you die, subject to underwriting.
Terminal illness benefit. You can claim all of your life insurance benefits if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness. Most insurers offer this benefit.
Funeral advance benefit. Budget Direct will quickly advance $15,000 of your cover to assist with funeral expenses.
Future increases benefit. If an allowable event occurs, you can increase your cover by the lesser of $100,000 or 20% of your original cover amount, without the need to provide further medical evidence. This includes the birth of a child or if you take out a mortgage.
Premium freeze benefit. If you're finding it difficult to afford your premium payments, you can stop your premiums from increasing with indexation. However, in exchange, your sum insured may be reduced.
Financial advice benefit. Budget Direct will reimburse up to $2,000 for the cost of a qualified financial adviser for benefits in excess of $200,000.
Grief counselling benefit. Some other insurers offer this. You can get up to $1,000 for grief counselling for you or your loved ones.
Optional add-ons
You can add the following optional extras to your Budget Direct life insurance policy:
Total and permanent disability insurance. This can pay you a lump sum of up to $5,000,000 if you become permanently disabled. The benefit will reduce your life insurance or Trauma cover. After you reach 65, your TPD benefit will be reduced by 10% each year until you are 75.
Trauma insurance. Available as an add-on to your life cover or as a standalone Trauma policy. You can choose up to $2 million worth of cover to be paid as a lump sum if you suffer a serious, listed medical condition. Main events covered include certain cancers, heart attack and stroke.
Disability income insurance. Cover to help replace a share of your income in case you can't work due to sickness or injury. You'll receive a benefit of up to 70% of your lost income up to $30,000 per month. You may also insure up to 10% of your sum insured as a superannuation contribution.
Business expenses insurance. If you're self-employed you can choose cover of up to $25,000 per month in the event you can't work due to sickness or injury.

Any exclusion specific to you and noted in any special acceptance terms when you sign up

Life Insurance is a little complicated and a lot overwhelming. That's why we made the Finder Score, to make it easier to compare Life Insurance products against each other. Our experts analysed over 20 products and gave each one a score between 1 and 10.
But a higher score doesn't always mean a product is better for you. Your situation is unique, so your policy choice will be too. Don't think of Finder Score as the final word, but as a good place to start your life insurance comparison.

Important information about this website
Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
