By getting on top of these insurance essentials in your 30s, you'll have an easier time relaxing later in life!

By the time you've hit your thirties, you've probably got quite a bit of stuff – both for inside and outside the home – and you may even have an actual house or two! So it's essential to have the right insurance in place.

Explore ALDI Insurance

👋 Hey there! We've partnered with ALDI Insurance for this article, so we'll be using its products as an example throughout. However, you should also do your own research to determine which insurance product is right for you. You should read the relevant terms and conditions carefully before signing up for any insurance product.

1. Get your home – or your investment – covered

Owning your own home comes with certain responsibilities. If there's some kind of accident, you want to make sure that your property is protected.

From everyday issues like damaging leaks to full-blown natural disasters, it's important to have the right insurance partner.

ALDI Insurance is one provider that offers cover for a wide range of insured events, spanning theft and vandalism all the way to storm, flood or fire (including the rebuild of your property if it is deemed a total loss). You can also get cover for furnishings and equipment as part of a home office – especially important if you work from home at all.

You can also save up to 8% on your home insurance premium with ALDI Insurance by installing complimentary smart home sensors, on eligible policies*. Working in conjunction with your smartphone, these sensors can detect a range of potential issues, including fire, water damage and theft.

Investment properties need to be covered for these issues too – but they also have more specialised requirements.

That's where cover for landlords comes in.

ALDI Insurance offers cover for landlords that applies to situations like theft and natural disasters, while also covering other potential issues.

This includes damage from tenants, cover for fixtures and fittings, rent default and more, which aren't necessarily covered by traditional home insurance policies.

(Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about contents insurance – we'll talk about that in the next point!)

2. Look after your belongings

Insurance isn't just about protecting your home. It's also about protecting the stuff inside.

Contents insurance allows you to cover your belongings in most of the same ways you might cover your house.

After all, theft, natural disasters, water damage and other problems don't just affect buildings. And if these issues occur, you don't want to be stuck with a huge bill to replace a whole range of everyday items.

ALDI Insurance allows you to take out contents insurance to cover your belongings, including new for old replacement for your contents.

But what about if you're renting? Contents insurance can sometimes seem a bit trickier to negotiate, given that you don't own the house you're living in.

You may also be moving around quite a bit, which also opens you up to a greater risk of damaging your items, or loss (this writer speaks from first-hand experience).

The good news is that there are renter's insurance policies available to help you protect your belongings.

ALDI Insurance offers Contents Insurance for renters which has many of the same features as traditional contents insurance, but with a few tweaks. For example, you can split cover with housemates and also get cover while your goods are in transit.

3. Get the cover you need for your car

Given the ongoing issues with the cost of living and rises in car insurance premiums, it can be tempting to stick with only compulsory third-party car insurance.

It's an understandable choice. But it can also be more expensive in the long run if an accident does occur.

Comprehensive cover can offer a broader range of benefits, which can make it a better option in the long run. For example, ALDI Car Insurance offers cover for theft, loss or damage, emergency repairs, personal property inside the car and more.

You can see a full list of coverage on the ALDI Car Insurance website.

Comprehensive cover doesn't mean you can't make savings, either. Comparing and shopping around means you can potentially score a great deal.

Let's look at ALDI Insurance as an example. Currently, ALDI's comprehensive car insurance offers higher benefit limits than many other car insurers. Some insurers will only cover up to $500 of personal property, whereas ALDI covers for up to $1,500.

Shopping around for features like this can help you get the cover you need while still maintaining affordability.
