1. Transport: Placie

This year, make a resolution to start with Placie when you're heading out. This app compares a whole range of transport options in one handy place, so you can decide which is the cheapest, fastest and best one for you.

It even compares various rideshare apps and taxi services to make sure you don't overpay for your trip. Prices are quoted in real-time and as you can book rides directly through Placie, you can keep tabs of all your bookings in one place to keep on top of your budget -- no matter who you ride with.

You can also mix-and-match modes of transport (including ride services, public transport, or even driving or walking yourself) to get you to your destination faster or cheaper.

💸Saver tip! Finder currently has an exclusive deal with Placie. If you sign up as a new user with the code FINDER10, you'll receive $10 off your first 3 rides.*

2. Experiences: Groupon

Offering discounts of up to 70% off, Groupon is your one-stop shop for cheap ways to explore your city.

On offer is a mix of activities and experiences, including beauty treatments, local eats, health and fitness classes and hotel stays.

Deals are available for a limited time only and you can search by city or by suburb to see what's going on in your local.

💸Saver tip! On top of its already heavily discounted prices, Groupon often has coupon codes to save an extra 20%. You can find the most recent codes here.

3. Dining Out: EatClub

Feeling lazy to cook tonight? You don't have to rack up a hefty bill because you're too tired and time-poor. Instead, check out EatClub.

This nifty app connects hungry folk with restaurants that still have empty tables tonight.

As an incentive, you can nab your meal at up to 50% off. They get their tables filled, you get a cheap dinner. It's win-win really.

💸Saver tip! As a general rule of thumb, the earlier you dine (before 5pm seems to be the sweet spot) the bigger the discount.

Budgeting

4. Budgeting: Finder

If getting on top of your money is your New Year's resolution, check out the Finder app. It allows you to connect all your accounts to help you keep track of your finances and budget accordingly.

On top of giving you transparency on where your money is going, it provides you with the tools to save on the essentials.

This includes credit cards, energy, home loans, insurance, mobile phones and travel.

💸Saver tip! Hit the "save" icon on the app to start comparing prices to see if you can get a better deal.

5. Loyalty cards: Stocard

Do you have a bundle of loyalty cards lost in your wallet? If you're constantly forgetting to scan them at the checkout then Stocard can help make sure you make the most of your purchases.

This app stores all your cards digitally. Simply whip it out when you're at the shops and watch your rewards grow.

On top of popular preset cards, such as Everyday Rewards and Flybuys, Stocard lets you store unknown cards. This way even the smallest retailer with a loyalty scheme will not be forgotten.

💸Saver tip! More than just a loyalty card organiser, Stocard comes with its own set of discounts. This includes 5% off select gift cards.

6. Entertainment: TodayTix

Going out and live entertainment is one of the first things to get the chop when budgeting. But what if you could get it for a fraction of the price?

TodayTix is a rush ticket app that sells discounted seats to both big and small productions across Australia.

Savings can reach up to 49% off and you can add productions to your waitlist so you don't miss out on those cheap sets.

💸Saver tip! Feeling lucky? TodayTix allows you to enter ticket lotteries for some of the most sought-after productions. If you win, you could be paying a minimal cost for an A-grade seat.

7. Petrol: 7-Eleven

The price of petrol has been soaring for almost a year now. To save you time driving from pump to pump searching for the cheapest, a bunch of apps have cropped up to keep you across the prices in your area.

One that works wonders for pre-planners is the My 7-Eleven app. Its Fuel Price Lock feature lets you scope out the price of fuel at select petrol stations. You can then lock in the price you like to use within the next 7 days.

💸Saver tip! Velocity members can link up their memberships to the 7-Eleven app to earn points on their purchases. You can earn 2 Velocity Points per litre on fuel. Points can then be redeemed at the Velocity Store or on Virgin Australia flights.
