4 cryptocurrencies to watch in 2024

With so many cryptocurrencies to choose from, it's essential to do your due diligence before you start investing or building your portfolio.

You're able to invest in all of the cryptocurrencies listed below and more than 1,000 other coins via Coinstash.

👋 Hey there! As this article is sponsored by Coinstash, we'll be using some examples from its products in this article. But always compare your options and do your research. Cryptocurrencies are high-risk investments. Additionally, make sure that you also read the Terms and Conditions on the Coinstash website and any other relevant disclaimers before signing up for this service.

1. Bitcoin (BTC)

The original – and arguably still the most popular – cryptocurrency, Bitcoin has tended to attract the most attention from crypto investors and the general public alike. Investors often use it as a gateway into the world of crypto investing, given the consistent interest in it since its debut in 2009.

With the price of Bitcoin climbing significantly in 2023 and 2024, and the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission's ("SEC") approval of the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs earlier this year, interest in Bitcoin as an investment asset has surged among both cryptocurrency enthusiasts and traditional market investors.

At the moment, if you sign up for a new account with Coinstash, you'll receive up to $200 worth of Bitcoin that you can use to build your crypto portfolio. Terms and conditions apply.

2. Ethereum (ETH)

As the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, Ethereum holds a unique position in the crypto market. This pioneering smart contract platform has revolutionized the industry, enabling the development of decentralized applications (dApps), NFTs, and much more.

Its dynamic ecosystem has attracted a diverse community of developers, investors, and technologists, all drawn to its potential to transform the financial landscape.

The SEC's recent approval of the first U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs further highlights its pivotal role and growing credibility in both crypto and traditional financial sectors.

3. Solana (SOL)

The last couple of years have seen considerable buzz around Solana, due to its ability to offer cheaper transaction fees than Ethereum, while also offering a great deal of the same functionality.

Though it hasn't yet reached the same level of mainstream appeal as Ethereum – and accordingly doesn't have the same number of projects running – it's nonetheless a cryptocurrency that many investors are keeping their eye on.

This year has also seen Solana become the home of meme coins, with many of the latest trending meme coins coming from its ecosystem.

4. Dogwifhat (WIF)

Speaking of meme coins, they've seen a resurgence during 2024, likely as part of the wider crypto resurgence.

Meme coins need to be treated with a degree of caution; unfortunately, scammers will sometimes try and ride popular memes with low-quality coins. However, some have emerged as more notable players in the crypto landscape, such as Dogecoin.

New entrants are accordingly eyed with interest, such as Dogwifhat, which garnered significant investor attention during Q1 of 2024.

This meme coin features a playful dog wearing a hat as its logo, similar to other dog-based meme coins – but cuter! With a strong and growing community, it has quickly become one of the most talked-about cryptocurrencies of the year.

A mention of WIF by Elon Musk has also helped propel some interest during June 2024, so it will be interesting to see how it lands through the rest of the year, alongside its meme coin contemporaries.
