4 ways you can get your finances organised before EOFY

With the end of the financial year just about to arrive, it's the perfect time to take a look at your finances and set yourself up for success in the months ahead.

1. Check your credit score

When you're organising your finances, your credit score is a great place to start. After all, your credit score determines whether you're perceived as a "risk" when you're applying for a credit product – like a loan or a credit card.

The higher your credit score (usually out of a maximum of 1200) the better it is; in turn, you're more likely to be able to qualify for loans.

Checking your credit score with Jacaranda can give you an idea of where you currently stand.

And if it turns out your credit score is on the lower side, there are still things you can do to improve it.

2. Do a refresher on finance basics

When you're organising your finances, it's important to have the right support. No one expects you to master them overnight!

Likewise, even if you've got your finances pretty well under control, it can be quite helpful to take a look at the basics again.

So tools like Jacaranda's Finance Fundamentals online course can be handy for helping you get started, whether you need an introduction or just a refresher.

This course takes you through the basics of financial management in a straightforward form. It's also delivered online, so you're able to tackle it at your own pace.

3. Consolidate your debt

Debt can be a major issue that prevents Australians from getting ahead and balancing their budget.

Depending on your particular situation, consolidating debt can allow you to streamline a range of different payments into a single payment.

This can help bring down the overall cost of the debt, month to month.

Jacaranda Finance offers a range of debt consolidation loans. However, before opting to consolidate your debt, it's always worth speaking to a financial professional.

4. Get your paperwork organised!

Since tax time isn't far away, it's worth getting all of your paperwork organised before you start filing your return.

You can see a more complete checklist right here on Finder, but some common documents you'll need include:

  • Payslips
  • Details of interest or dividends earned
  • Superannuation contributions
  • Work expenses
  • Receipts for charitable donations

Whether you do your tax yourself or see an accountant, sorting it out now will make for a much more streamlined process.
