Offering a premium product and service, the American Express Platinum Card can offer significant value to those looking to earn more perks with their spend.

👋 Hey there! We've partnered with American Express for this article. So we'll be using the American Express Platinum Card as an example throughout. However, you should always do your own research. Make sure to read the product T&Cs before you sign up for any financial product.

1. Special events

Having the right Card in tow can open up a new world of opportunities and experiences.

Exclusive events? Member-only bonuses? Early access to tickets? If this sounds good to you, the American Express Platinum Card can be a great option.

A recent American Express event was delicious. Month Out, a month-long celebration of dining partners, where highlights included 20 Shop Small dining business stalls selling their favourite menu items. It was a huge range of fine food, with the best and freshest flavours in Sydney.

On opening day, American Express Platinum Card Members could get a voucher for a sweet treat at Café Amex when purchasing any item from the Shop Small Dining Village.

You can see some of the highlights in the video on the right!

New events are being added all the time, too – so if you're a Member, make sure you check the American Express Events page regularly.

2. Dining rewards

If your mouth is watering for more epicurean experiences post-delicious Month Out, it might be worth your while to look at some of the other perks included in an American Express Platinum Card.

Card Members receive a $400 Global Dining Credit – $200 can be used domestically and $200 abroad – eligible for use at select restaurants around the globe.2 One-time enrolment is required.

Whether you're dining out for a special occasion locally or you're a gourmand on the road, the American Express Platinum Card can be an excellent way to enhance your next meal.

3. New Card Member sign up bonus offers

Sign-up bonuses can add significant value to your overall card experience.

Until 25 June, if you sign up as a new Member for the American Express Platinum Card, you'll be eligible to receive 150,000 Bonus Membership Rewards Points when you spend $5,000 on eligible purchases within 3 months of your approval date.

You can redeem Membership Rewards Points for a huge range of rewards, including travel, accommodation3, gift cards4 (across a selection of retail partners) and more.

You can also earn points through everyday spend, too. You'll earn 2.25 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases, and 1 point per $1 spent on government spending (e.g. taxes, bills etc).5

4. Travel rewards

Being able to travel is one of life's great joys – and with the right Card in tow, you'll be able to make your journey even smoother!

Travel tends to be associated with redeeming points. In fact, you're able to transfer your Membership Rewards Points to one of 12 airline reward programs, including Qantas Frequent Flyer, Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer and Air New Zealand Airpoints.6

There's no question that this can be a great way to subsidise travel – but with the American Express Platinum Card, you can actually score a range of other perks too.

American Express Platinum Card Members receive a $450 Travel Credit each year, which can be used both domestically and internationally.7

Card Members can use this Travel Credit across numerous travel services, including eligible flights, hotels or car hire when booking with the Platinum Travel Service or American Express Travel Online.8

This isn't the only travel inclusion, either. Having an American Express Platinum Card also gives you access to more than 1,400 airport lounges9 and complimentary travel insurance. Terms, conditions and exclusions apply (such as maximum age-limits, pre-existing medical conditions and cover limits).10

Card Members also receive a complimentary Accor Plus membership.11

5. Paying for items with points

Redeeming Membership Rewards Points for travel or gift vouchers can be a great way to offset some of your everyday costs, or to give gifts to friends and family.

But there are other ways to use Points, too.

American Express Platinum Card Members can also use Membership Rewards Points to cover eligible purchases on their account, via the Select + Pay function12. This allows you to be rewarded for how you spend, and to use points to offset many of your eligible everyday expenses.
