Upgrade your internet before the end of 2023 and get ahead on your life admin! We take a look at some of the benefits of a faster internet connection.
Sponsored by TPG. Eligible homes can now upgrade their nbn fibre technology to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) for $0 installation fee. Until March 31 2024, new TPG customers will receive a bonus credit of $250. Existing TPG nbn® customers who are upgrading will receive a $100 bonus credit. All nbn internet connections are created equal, right? Well, not necessarily. Based on where you live, your nbn connection type can be different to your friend a few suburbs away.
You can check your address on nbn co's website to check out your connection type.
If you're still on a Fibre to the Node (FTTN) connection, your internet speed may not be as fast as it could be. But the good news is nbn is upgrading eligible households to faster Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connections.
In fact, you and you may well be one of the millions of Australians eligible for a free upgrade.
You can also upgrade your internet plan, too. Providers like TPG are offering a range of plans to cater for the increased speed that FTTP offers.

Now, you might be wondering about some of the benefits of making the switch to FTTP. So today, we're taking a look at some of the reasons you might want to swap over before the end of 2023.
1. Faster internet
So – first things first. The main reason to upgrade to FTTP is increased download and upload speeds. Couple it with some of that sweet unlimited data and the world is your oyster!
In practical terms, faster internet means you'll be able to browse, work, stream and play online with far greater speed and less risk of dropout.
It's also a boon for larger families or people living in big houses. No more chug when multiple people are using the network or streaming from the other side of the house.
With this said, not everyone's data needs are created equal. A family of 6 with a few gamers and streaming fans in the house is likely to need greater speed than a couple who just watch a bit of Netflix occasionally.
Accordingly, providers like TPG offer a range of different FTTP plans to suit people's individual speed needs.
Getting a new plan set up now means you'll have effective internet in place for the holidays, helping keep everyone entertained.
2. More reliable connection for working from home
Working from home has been the norm for several years now. But it's remarkable how many Australians are still getting by with a less-than-ideal connection.
For the new year, though – no one should put up with online meetings that turn into pixelated messes.
Having access to reliable internet from a provider like TPG will allow you to connect with your team more effectively. Quicker communication, file transfers and better connectivity during calls are just some of the benefits.
So setting up a new FTTP connection before the end of 2023 will help you set yourself up for success in the new year.
3. Credit from your provider for upgrading
To encourage FTTP uptake, some providers are actually offering incentives to new and existing customers.
For example, until March 31 2024, TPG is offering new customers a bonus credit of $250 when they upgrade to FTTP, as well as a $0 installation fee.
Existing TPG customers aren't left out, either. You can transition from an existing nbn plan with TPG to an FTTP one with a $0 installation fee. Additionally, you'll receive a bonus credit of $100.
FTTP isn't available everywhere in Australia just yet, but you can check on the TPG website to see if it's available in your area.
4. Better streaming and gaming capacity
So, we promised earlier we'd talk streaming and gaming – and here we are!
Streaming is a must-have for any modern lounge room. It's a great way to keep the whole family entertained, especially through the holiday season.
But without the right connection – or if too many people are streaming at once – it's pretty easy for your favourite movie to start lagging or simply drop out.
The same goes for gaming. Anyone who's ever played online before has been stung by horrible lag and ping ruining their streak. It's a rite of passage as a gamer – but it's something you shouldn't have to put up with in this day and age.
So in short – internet speed is essential. Getting a new connection set up before the end of 2023 means that you'll be good to go throughout the holidays, and keep everyone entertained through January 2024 and beyond.
5. Less bandwidth drain with multiple devices
One of the big problems for many households isn't a lack of raw speed, per se. Rather, it's the fact that so many devices are connected to the modem. Between computers, consoles, smartphones, TVs and even fridges being connected to your home network, your network can just slow to a crawl.
Don't forget – over the holidays you're likely to have even more devices clogging it up too. New electronic devices as gifts, more people at home at any given time, family visitors needing to use Wi-Fi…the list goes on.
So setting up an FTTP connection with a provider like TPG before the end of the year can help you avoid the bandwidth hassle around the holidays.
