Paramount Plus: Australia vs US library comparison

Now that Paramount Plus has launched in Australia, we can dig a little deeper. How does it stack up to its American counterpart?

Streaming service Paramount Plus originally launched in the US way back in 2014 as CBS All Access. The Australian version, 10 All Access, launched just over 4 years later, so the American version had a fair head start.

As they are both owned by the same company, ViacomCBS, there are vast similarities between them, starting with the interface. Both are compatible with the same devices and mirror a 7-day free trial. The platforms also both have a live news feed showing CBS news from the US.

Watch series and films from Paramount, Showtime, MTV, CBS, Nickelodeon and more. Once free trial is completed Paramount+ costs $8.99 per month.

Pricing is a little different, as you will note in our video review below. In Australia, there is a blanket $10.99 per month charge or an annual price of $97.99. They are your only options. In Australia, Paramount Plus is also free of advertising.

That is not the case in the US. For American subscribers there is an Essential plan that is $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and comes with what it calls "limited ads". Then there is a Premium plan that is effectively double the price, $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, and has "no ads except live TV & a few shows".

As you can see in our table below, there are a vast number of similarities between the content on the platforms, plus some exceptions. For example, they both have every season of the US version of Survivor, Chappelle's Show, Cheers and the original NCIS.

The Australian version has all of South Park, Dexter, Ray Donovan and The Big Bang Theory. The US doesn't have these programs.

Football (or soccer) on Paramount Plus

Sport is another interesting comparison. The Australian site has some football, or soccer as Americans and some Aussies call it, including the A-League, W-League and some national team games outside of the World Cup.

But the US gets the nod here as it holds the rights to the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, as well as the jewel in the US sports crown, the NFL, for games shown on CBS. Throw in the Masters golf tournament and March Madness college basketball and the US site is a clear winner for sport, so far anyway.
