What is the cheapest iPhone 14 plan in Australia?

The cheapest way to get the iPhone 14 on a plan is to sign up with Vodafone.

The repayment cost of your iPhone itself may be the same across all providers but the key difference is when you add on a SIM only plan.

Out of the 3 major telcos, Vodafone's SIM only plans are the cheapest around followed by Optus and then Telstra.

The main caveat is its coverage can be spotty for those in rural and regional areas and some metro areas so just make sure Vodafone is the right option for you before signing up for a 12, 24 or 36-month phone plan.

Is there an alternative? You could also get an iPhone on a lease via a subscription plan from numobile which can work out to be slightly cheaper but you'll need to return it after 24 or 36 months.

How do I choose the best iPhone 14 plan?

There's no one size fits all answer to this, but here's a step-by-step guide to get you started.

Price and Discount icon

Price and discounts

Consider how much it'll cost to pair your iPhone 14 model of choice with a mobile plan from either Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. Look for any discounts that the telcos might be slinging when you're doing your research.

Choosing the right provider

Choose a provider that offers you the most benefit. Is the amount of data you're getting enough for how much you'll end up paying? Think about other perks as well. For example, Optus gives you the option to subscribe to Optus Sport for cheaper. Vodafone's $5 roaming add-on is a solid option for frequent travellers. Telstra offers the best network coverage out of the lot.

Decide on a plan length

You can choose to pay off the cost of your phone over 12, 24 or 36 months. Paying it off earlier means you are free to switch to a cheaper mobile plan with another provider. However, it's always best to stick to a plan length that best fits your monthly budget.

iPhone 14 features

Over the last few years, Apple's given us a range of colours that we've become quite familiar with but for the iPhone 14 it threw in a couple of surprises.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come in Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight and (PRODUCT) Red.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max can be bought in Deep Purple, Gold, Silver and Space Black.

Camera

Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come with dual cameras - a 12MP main wide-angle and a 12MP ultra wide-angle lens. The selfie camera's also received an upgrade to feature autofocus.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is where the action's at and where we've seen the biggest improvements from Apple.

You'll find a trio of lenses covering wide, ultra-wide and a 3x telephoto camera for portraits and optical zoom. However, it's the 48MP sensor that really hits the mark and can get your sharper and brighter photos.

Size

Here's a rundown of the display size and weight of the iPhone 14 models.

  • iPhone 14: 6.1 inches, 172g
  • iPhone 14 Plus: 6.7 inches, 203g
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 6.1 inches, 206g

Battery

Apple claims the iPhone 14 to have its best battery yet, estimating up to 20 hours of video playback, 16 hours of streaming video playback and 80 hours of audio playback.

It doesn't ever announce actual battery capacities for the iPhone 14.

Finder's battery test runs suggest that using the iPhone 14 for the full day is possible but may be a stretch if you're using your phone heavily through the day.
