More Telstra customers hit with price hikes (full details)
Telstra postpaid customers will end up paying $3 to $6 more per month starting 4 July 2023.
It was right at the beginning of May we reported Telstra was soon going to hike up prices on its prepaid plans.
Now the hip pocket hit is going to be directed to its postpaid customers as well.
From 4 July, here's what you can expect to pay each month on your postpaid plan with Telstra once the price changes go through:
Plan | Old price | New price | Data included |
---|---|---|---|
Basic | $58 | $62 | 50GB (was 40GB) |
Essential | $68 | $72 | 180GB |
Premium | $89 | $95 | 300GB |
It was almost a year back - 2 July 2022 to be exact - that Telstra raised its prices by $3-$4 a month.
Back then, it also gave more data in return, whereas this time around only the Basic plan will see an increase in data allowance.
If you're with a Telstra mobile broadband plan, you're also going to see a price bump in the near future too.
Here's a look at the changes:
Plan | Old price | New price | Data included |
---|---|---|---|
Mobile Broadband S | $25 | $25 (no change) | 30GB |
Mobile Broadband M | $55 | $58 | 75GB |
Mobile Broadband L | $85 | $90 | 400GB |
Life getting too expensive? Consider these mobile providers instead
If you're not okay with the price hikes but still want Telstra coverage, it might be worth focusing on another provider.
Boost Mobile is the only Telstra MVNO to get full Telstra 4G and 5G coverage.
Its prices are also going to go up in July, but it'll still remain a cheaper alternative to the telco giant itself.
It runs on Telstra's wholesale network and Belong recently won the 2023 Finder Award for Best Postpaid Mobile Provider - High data.
Its 100GB plan offers excellent value and costs $45 a month. This is still heaps of data and cheaper than Telstra's Essential postpaid plan.
Why is Telstra increasing prices yet again?
We've got one word to sum it up - inflation.
"Last year we told our postpaid mobile and mobile broadband customers that we will review our plan pricing annually, and that the plan prices might increase in July each year in line with CPI," said a Telstra spokesperson.
"This change helps us to provide more transparency so that our customers know what to expect and when.
"We've completed that review for this year, and will be increasing our plan [prices] on 4 July 2023 in line with the CPI [Consumer Price Index] of 7%. We've started letting our postpaid customers know."
