Our verdict

Pros

  • It has unlimited emergency medical & hospital coverage.
  • A $0 excess is available on many benefit claims.
  • There are plenty of optional extras to customise your policy.

Cons

  • It only covers up to $10,000 for luggage and personal effects — other brands have higher limits.
  • Its travel delay limit is lower than other providers.
  • It only covers the essentials. Things like rental car excess cover have to be added as an extra.

Some of Butter’s benefit limits are lower than its competitors but for travellers who only want travel insurance for the essentials, it fits the bill.
