Cover for pregnancy is automatically included up to the 24th week and can be extended if you have medical clearance from a doctor.
Specific benefits are included for victims of domestic violence and parents, including counselling service and childcare fees.
Cons
Although many adventure activities are included as standard, it’s not possible to add activities such as outdoor rock climbing with equipment, parachuting, or any professional sports.
There’s no option to add pre-existing medical conditions beyond those that are already named in the policy, which could leave some travellers at risk.
Some of these benefits are only available if you do not remove or adjust any benefits covered as standard when requesting a quote online. Check the PDS and certificate of insurance.
Stella also offers optional add-ons that provide cover for a wider range of risks. Generally, these will cost more but they do strengthen your policy.
Winter sports. Extends your policy to cover you if you’re heading to the slopes, plus some snow-specific risks such as piste closure
Rental vehicle excess. Provides cover toward your comprehensive motor insurance excess if your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen
Motorcycle or moped riding.Provides cover if you ride a moped or motorcycle, either as a passenger or rider. You must meet specific conditions.
Cruise cover. Extends your insurance policy to cover to cover cruises and somecruise-specific risks including cabin confinement.
Pet boarding.
Up to $200 per day, to a maximum of $1,400 if you’re delayed and need to extend your pet boarding arrangements.
Increased luggage item limits. If you're travelling with expensive items (PDS), you can increase your luggage cover up to $2,000 per item or $10,000 in total.
Increased trip cancellation and interruption limits. Increase the amount covered up to a maximum of $40,000.
Exclusions
Unfortunately, insurance policies don’t cover everything. Generally, Stella will not pay your claim if it relates to:
Unlawful, reckless or unreasonably unsafe behaviour by you
Behaviour while you were drunk or under the influence of drugs
You being unfit to travel or travelling against medical advice
Childbirth or pregnancy complications after the 24th week of gestation (or 19th week if it’s a multiple birth) unless you have a medical clearance from a doctor
Pre-existing medical conditions not listed as covered on the policy
This is not a full list of exclusions. Make sure you review Stella’s PDS for a detailed breakdown of what won't be covered, found under its list of general exclusions.

Here's the bottom line about Stella Travel Insurance
Stella Travel Insurance is highly-customisable, so it can be tailored to suit a wide range of different travellers, trips and situations.
There are also some unique benefits within Stella’s policy, including extended cover for pregnancy complications if you have medical clearance from a doctor, and specific benefits for victims of domestic violence.
However, even when adding all possible benefits, it’s not necessarily the most comprehensive policy on the market. The maximum amount claimable per item is $2,000 which could leave some travellers exposed - particularly in terms of jewellery or technology.
Although Stella’s brand is aimed at women, men and non-binary travellers can also get insurance through Stella.

Important information about this website
finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
