World2Cover travel insurance

Our verdict: There's unlimited protection for overseas medical, evacuation, cancellation fees and emergency expenses on its Top plan but COVID-19 cover might not be enough for some travellers.

World2Cover Travel Insurance

Pros

  • World2Cover's new-for-old feature means that if your personal items need to be replaced, you'll get a brand new one of the same value.
  • The Basics Cover is not just medical-only like many other providers but includes up to $2,000 of personal items cover.
  • World2Cover's $10,000,000 legal liability cover is the highest we've seen out of any other provider.

Cons

  • World2Cover does offer cover for COVID-related medical expenses, but only if you pay for the Top Cover policy, its most comprehensive plan.

How does World2Cover travel insurance cover COVID-19?

World2Cover offers unlimited cover for COVID-19 related to overseas medical, hospital and emergency expenses. This applies only to the Top Cover policy. If you have to cancel or amend your travel plans or experience a travel delay, there is also a limited amount of cover under the Top Cover and Domestic policies.

Other than this, World2Cover policies have general exclusions for some specific circumstances under its COVID-19 cover that include:

  • Travel on a multi-night cruise
  • Travel to a country subject to Do Not Travel advice on the Smartraveller website
  • Government- or state-regulated quarantine

If you're concerned about COVID-19 ruining your travel plans, we've compared all the providers that offer some cover for pandemic-related expenses.

What policies does World2Cover offer?

World2Cover has 5 different plans available. Its Top Cover, Essentials Cover and Basics Cover will cover you for overseas trips. It also offers an annual multi-trip and domestic plan.

Here are some of the main insured events a policy can cover you for:

The insurance is issued by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd and comes with a cooling-off period and $200 standard excess.

The cooling-off period is 21 days, which means if you change your mind and decide to cancel your policy within this period, World2Cover will refund your premium in full.

The excess is the amount you're required to pay when you make a claim. It can be reduced to $100 or $0 when you apply by paying an additional premium.

Optional add-on

Even the most comprehensive of insurance policies won't include everything but if there's something that isn't covered as standard, you may be able to pay an additional premium to add an extra cover to your policy. Make sure you read the fine print so you know what you are and are not covered for.

  • Cruise cover. This option will cover you in the event of illness, injury, delay or cancellation related to your cruise.
  • Increase luggage item limits. If you've traveling with some expensive or valuable items that go above the luggage limits, you can increase your cover on a per item basis.
  • Ski and winter sports cover is necessary if you're planning to hit the slopes during your trip as overseas medical expenses will not be covered otherwise. You'll also be covered for ski equipment hire and the cost of prepaid ski passes, ski hire, tuition fees or lift passes.

Exclusions

Before purchasing any insurance policy, you should take careful note of the general exclusions that apply. In general, World2Cover will never honour a claim if:

  • You are deemed to be acting irresponsibly at the time of the incident, or if you or a travelling companion are under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • You are doing something illegal or breaking any regulation or law when the issue arises
  • Your claim relates to a pre-existing medical condition you either did not inform World2Traveller about or which wasn't approved
  • You're driving a vehicle without the proper licence for the country you're in, or are a passenger on a motorcycle or similar with someone unlicensed driving
  • You went ahead with travel plans despite official warnings from the government or mass media
  • You were participating in risky sports or activities (e.g. mountaineering, rodeos)
  • Travel is booked or undertaken against the advice of a medical adviser
  • You are travelling to seek medical treatment or review

Review the World2Cover travel insurance product disclosure statement (PDS) for a complete list of general exclusions.

How to make a World2Cover travel insurance claim

The quickest and most convenient way to make a claim with World2Cover is online with its online claim lodgement. You can follow these steps:

  1. Head to www.world2cover.com.au/how-to-claim
  2. Choose Register, or Login if you've already registered
  3. Complete your claim details by answering all sections
  4. Upload any relevant documents to support your claim
  5. Submit

Your claim should be assessed within 10 working days.

Here's the bottom line about World2Cover travel insurance

World2Cover has a solid insurance offering with competitive benefit limits and a variety of plans to suit most budgets. You'll find unlimited cover for cancellation and overseas medical expenses as well as unlimited emergency expenses on the Top Cover policy. Its legal liability cover of $10 million is the highest we've seen.

Where we find World2Cover's policies a bit lacking is its COVID-19 cover. Multi-night cruises aren't covered and unless you opt for its most comprehensive plan, you won't get COVID-19 cover at all.

Many comprehensive policies cover this – check out our full guide to travel insurance for family emergencies. Note that most policies won’t cover any pre-existing conditions or illnesses – the incident has to be unexpected. Hope this helps.

Can you provide a list of Travel Insurers for someone over the age of 72 years who travels regularly and for long periods between Adelaide and Denpasar, Bali?

    Thanks.

      Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

It is recommended to get an annual travel insurance for someone who travels a lot in a year to save more on your trips.

You can enter your travel details from our travel insurance for seniors form to compare quotes from different providers. When you are ready, you may then click on the “Go to site” button and you will be redirected to the insurer’s website where you can proceed with the application or get in touch with their representatives for further inquiries you may have.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any other enquiries.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni
