Can I get a car from Uber's marketplace?

Uber has its own marketplace where you can rent vehicles in Sydney and other Australian cities too.

But this marketplace lists different rental providers similar to the ones listed above. You don't rent a car from Uber directly.

What are the requirements to drive an Uber in Sydney?

  • Age. In NSW you need to be at least 21 to drive Uber. This is the same in Victoria, but in other parts of the country you only need to be 20.
  • License. You need to hold a full driver's license valid in NSW, and have held a valid license (in any state or territory) for at least 12 months.
  • Insurance. You need to be listed as an insured driver for the car you're driving. If you're renting you may need a rideshare insurance policy instead.
  • Background check. You need to pass a background check.

Can I rent to own as an Uber driver?

Yes. Both splend and RideLender offer rent to own options for Uber drivers.

You pay a deposit and then a weekly charge while you drive. There may be other fees as well.

Keep in mind some of these services may charge you per kilometre driven if you exceed a weekly limit.

Is my car eligible for Uber in NSW?

If you already have a car, you can find out if it's eligible for Uber in Sydney and all NSW here.

Just select your vehicle brand and model from the dropdown menu or enter it into the search bar.

Don't want to rent? Compare Uber car loans

If renting a car doesn't work for you then finance is another option. You can get a car loan and then use the car to start driving Uber.

Make sure you're buying a car that's eligible for Uber in NSW.

It's also a good idea to use a car loan calculator to work out how much the car loan will cost you each month.
