Woolworths and Qantas: An extreme way to earn more Everyday Rewards

Want 8x points on your supermarket shop? Here's how.

I'm a fan of over-the-top ways to boost your Qantas Points total, and this is a doozy.

For the next two weeks, Woolworth is offering 6 times Everyday Rewards points if you purchase $150 or more in Woolworths Group gift cards.

So if you purchased a $200 gift card, you'd get 1,200 bonus Everyday Rewards points.

You can use the gift cards to pay for your regular supermarket shop at Woolworths.

The maximum value of gift cards you can buy in the offer is $2,500. That would translate to 15,000 Everyday Rewards points.

Finder research shows the average household in Australia spends $185 a week at the supermarket, so that would cover you for 13 weeks of shopping.

To really max out the value, you'd need to be a member of Everyday Extra.

I'm a big fan of that scheme – the cost of membership is more than covered by the monthly 10% discount, plus you earn double Everyday Rewards on every shop.

That $2,500 in shopping would be worth 5,000 Everyday Rewards points for an Everyday Extra Member.

Add that to the 15,000 bonus and you'd have 20,000 Everyday Rewards points in total.

That can be converted in $100 in cash off your shop, but you can do even better.

Convert those into Qantas Points and you'd end up with 10,000 Qantas Points – enough for a Qantas flight between Sydney and Melbourne.

As usual, the fine print matters. The deal runs until 8:59am AEDT on 23 October 2023.

You can only use the offer once (though you can purchase multiple cards), and it can take up to 14 days for the bonus points to appear.

While you can "boost" this offer in the Everyday Rewards app, you don't have to do that.

You just need to make sure your Everyday Rewards card is scanned when you buy the cards, or purchase through the "gifting" section of the Everyday Rewards app.

If that seems a bit much, consider the strategy my colleague Amy Bradney-George uses: buying gift cards at a discount to save on your shopping.
