The Bank of Queensland (BOQ) Q Rewards is a credit cards reward program for cardholders with a BOQ Blue Visa Credit Card or BOQ Platinum Visa Credit Card. You can use these points when shopping at Q Rewards partners (like Kogan and Apple) or transfer the points to Flybuys or Velocity Points (with the Platinum Visa Card).
How can I earn BOQ rewards points with a credit card?
You'll earn Q Rewards points at the following rates for each $1 of eligible spending when you have one of these BOQ credit cards:
- BOQ Blue Visa credit card: 1 point per $1 spent, uncapped
- BOQ Platinum Visa credit card: 2 points per $1 spent, uncapped
What counts as eligible spending?
You can earn BOQ Q Rewards points when you make an eligible transaction. This covers most purchases except for exclusions like cash advances, balance transfers, special promotions, BPAY payments, government-related transactions, ATM charges, payments to other BOQ accounts and purchases of foreign currency.
Check BOQ's terms and conditions (pdf) for the full exclusions list.
What can I redeem Q Rewards points for?
You'll be able to view all the details of current rewards by logging into your BOQ account and navigating to the Q Rewards section. To give you an idea, here are details that were publicly available in 2024.
- Flybuys transfers. You can transfer Q Rewards points to Flybuys by linking your accounts. The transfer rate and other details are not publicly available, so log in to see full details.
- Velocity Points transfers. If you have a BOQ Platinum Visa credit card you can transfer points to Velocity Frequent Flyer at a rate of 3 Q Rewards points for 1 Velocity Point. You can transfer a minimum of 30,000 Q Rewards points per transfer.
- Cashback options. When you use your credit card to pay for eligible purchases, you can receive a statement credit back to your account. You can also use points to pay your annual card fee.
- Digital gift cards. You can redeem points for gift cards with partner brands.
How much are Q Rewards points worth?
There is no clear fixed dollar value for BOQ Q Rewards Points. It largely depends on what you redeem them for.
Rewards have different values, and the BOQ Q Rewards website does not publicly list the points needed for all of them. So you'll need to have an account and login to see details.
You can also calculate the value of your points for different types of rewards, or get an estimate of the value with Finder's points calculator.

Ask a question
how do I redeem my points?
Hi John.
Please have a look at the Bank of Queensland Q Rewards website.
You can browse through their list of rewards once you’ve logged into your online banking facility. And once you’ve decided which rewards you would like to redeem your points for, you can download and fill in an order form. When this is completed you’ll get a redemption receipt. Your goods will be sent out to a nominated address shortly after.
Thanks for your question.
Are there any outstanding reward points for me?
Hi Brian. Thanks for your question. Please log onto the Bank of Queensland online portal to check your rewards points balance. This can be accessed through their website. Jacob.
I would like to pay my annual fee of $60 with my mastercard reward points. Can you tell me how to do it?
Hi Wendy. I don’t believe this is possible as Bank of Queensland only offers Visa Cards. Can you please provide a little more information. Jacob.
Please, how many points qualify for a flight to Auckland(BOQ).
Hi Olivia
First of all, thanks for your comment – I love questions that involve a bit of number crunching! :)
I just had a look at the Q Rewards website. You can redeem points and redeem them for Virgin Blue Vouchers, which also work with Pacific Blue who have direct flights to Auckland from Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
A $50 Virgin Blue voucher requires 13,750 Q Rewards points. With the BoQ Platinum Visa you can currently earn 2 Q rewards points per $1 you spend – so you’d have to spend $6,875 to get a $50 Q Rewards voucher – meaning it’s not one of the best frequent flyer rewards programs out there.
I just checked the Pacific Blue website – the current price for a 1 way Economy ticket from Melbourne to Auckland is $179. This would mean you would need to spend a whopping $24,612.50 to earn enough points in Virgin Blue $50 vouchers, to redeem your points for a 1 way Economy flight to Auckland.
In comparison, the Qantas Frequent Flyer program is much more efficient if you are looking to use your points for flights.
Using the Qantas Frequent Flyer Points calculator, it works out to be a requirement of 18,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points if you want to pay for an economy flight from Melbourne to Auckland using your QFF points only.
If you were to use the Qantas American Express Discovery Card to earn the points needed for this flight, it has a 1 to 1 earn rate – in other words, for every $1 you spend you earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer Point. That would mean you would need to spend only $18,000 to earn the economy flight one way form Melbourne to Auckland, in comparison to spending $24,612.50 with the Q Rewards program.
All in all, you’re probably best off to look for a credit card with a rewards program specifically optimised for redeeming travel and flights rewards.

I hope this comment helped!
