💰 Origin Spike

The Origin Spike program is useful during peak demand where, if you successfully beat the energy-use forecast set for you, you earn points that can be redeemed as PayPal cash or gift cards from eligible retailers.

⚡ Bill smoothing

Origin's EasiPay option allows you to pay the same amount on your energy bill in your preferred frequency - weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The amount is calculated based on your past energy usage and your predicted future energy costs.

Good to know

• You can get 5-5.2 cents per kWh FiT on Origin's non-solar electricity plans.
• If you live in NSW, VIC or QLD and have solar and battery systems installed at home, you can join Origin's Virtual Power Plant called Origin Loop. By joining, you'll help to relieve pressure on the grid at times of high demand. In return, you'll receive a credit on your electricity bill each month for five years.

Is Origin Energy environmentally friendly?

Origin Energy ranks 43rd (out of 47 providers) in the 2022 Green Electricity Guide rankings.

Although it supports renewable energy projects, Origin's low score is attributed to it being the "4th biggest polluter" and initial plans to burn coal until 2032. However, it's trying to accelerate the move to 2025.

• How much does renewable energy cost with Origin?

  Origin allows its customers to offset their carbon emissions and support renewable energy generation by offering GreenPower, Origin Go Zero and Green Gas at an additional cost.

  GreenPower is a government-accredited program which allows Origin to send renewable energy back to the grid on your behalf, matching your usage.

  You can add GreenPower to your plans by paying the following charges:

  • 25% GreenPower: $0.65 per week
  • 50% GreenPower: $1.35 per week
  • 100% GreenPower: $2.70 per week

  Origin Energy's Origin Go Zero add-on offsets the greenhouse emissions created by your power usage. You can purchase it for $1.50 per week.

  Green Gas, similar to Origin Go Zero, offsets greenhouse emissions created by your natural gas consumption at the cost of $1 per week.
