Red Energy topped our national rankings for electricity after customers gave it two thumbs up for offering great features on its plans and saw it place highly recommended for its customer support service. Red Energy is the only provider to offer Qantas Points to residential electricity customers. You get 10,000 bonus points when you first sign up and then 2 points per $1 ongoing. It’s also 100% Aussie-owned and boasts an Australian-based customer support team.

Alinta Energy was a finalist in the national category, scoring highly for ease of application and customer service, which is 100% Aussie-based. With Alinta Energy you can get a 12-month subscription to Kayo Sports worth $360 and up to 10% off through its Rewards Shop for dining, groceries and more.
Origin Energy rounded off the national electricity rankings as our second finalist. It was highly rated for its customer service, where you can access support via live chat through its mobile app or on the website. It also scored well for ease of application. As one of the major retailers, Origin Energy is known to offer a few bells and whistles on its plans including access to Everyday Rewards points, savings on fuel, and internet and energy bundling discounts.
National gas winnerRed Energy does a clean sweep in the national awards by claiming a second win in the gas category. Customers were very satisfied with its range of features and benefits as well as customer service, which is 100% Australian-based. One of its strong points of difference is letting customers earn Qantas Points. You get 5,000 bonus points when you first sign up and you can then earn 2 points for every $1 spent on your energy bill.
Highly commendedAlinta Energy once again comes up as a finalist, this time for gas. Customer service was its highest scoring category, likely thanks to its local customer support team. You can also access discounts through its rewards shop and sign up to its Sports Pack plan which offers a 12-month subscription to Kayo.
AGL rounds out the list as our second finalist. Customers gave it top marks for providing value for money, good customer service and an easy way to apply. AGL is known as a one-stop shop for your energy needs; you can access its app to manage your plan and track your usage. You also get live chat support, bundling discount for energy and internet plus access to discounts via AGL Rewards.
NSW electricity winner
ENGIE (then Simply Energy) has been voted the number 1 electricity provider in NSW. It received 4 out 5 and above in all the categories we asked customers to respond to. Around 87% said they would recommend the provider. ENGIE's plans are 100% carbon neutral, and depending on which plan you sign up to, you can access various discounts including saving on your NRMA membership. It also has live chat support and a handy app to help you manage your plan.
Highly commended
Momentum Energy fell just a tiny bit short and came in as runner-up. Around 91% of respondents surveyed said they'd recommend the provider. Momentum Energy is a good fit for households looking to reduce their carbon footprint. In fact, it was highly commended in the 2023 Finder Green Awards.
Diamond Energy rounds out the list as our second finalist, scoring well on value for money and its green credentials. According to The Green Electricity Guide by Greenpeace, it's the greenest energy provider in NSW as well as Australia. Around 84% of customers said they would recommend Diamond Energy.
NSW gas winnerRed Energy was ranked number 1 for gas in NSW. It scored 4 out of 5 or above in most of the categories, with 85% of customers saying they would recommend the provider. Red Energy is 100% Australian-owned and operated and gives you access to a local customer support team. It also offers the option to earn Qantas Points, support Breast Cancer Network Australia or enjoy a Flex Adult Pass for Taronga Zoo.
Highly commendedENGIE (then Simply Energy) came out as a finalist in the NSW awards for gas, with 88% of customers saying they would recommend the provider. Its plans are 100% carbon neutral at no additional cost. NRMA members and senior cardholders can also access discounted rates and offers.
Alinta Energy came in third place for gas in NSW, scoring particularly well for its customer service, which is Australian-based, as well as ease of application. Overall, 72% of customers we asked would recommend the provider. Signing up with Alinta Energy can get you access to discounts through its rewards store. Plus, its Sports Pack plan comes with a 12-month subscription to Kayo which can be a sweet offer for sports enthusiasts.
Victoria electricity winnerRed Energy topped the charts as the number 1 electricity provider in Victoria with a whopping 94% of customers saying they would recommend it. Its perks include 10,000 bonus Qantas Points when you sign up for its electricity plans. It is 100% Australian-owned by Snowy Hydro and scores well by customers for its green credentials.

GloBird Energy was a runner up in our 2023 Customer Satisfaction Awards for electricity providers in VIC. According to our results, 88% of consumers would recommend the brand. The energy provider was the highest rated when it came to ease of application. GloBird Energy has been well-known of late for offering competitively-priced plans alongside pay on time and direct debit discounts.
Powershop took its place as the second finalist after scoring a 4 out of 5 or above in a bunch of categories including customer service, features and benefits, ease of application and overall customer satisfaction. Signing up with Powershop comes with a bunch of perks such as access to 100% carbon neutral plans and a handy mobile app to track your usage and pay your bills.
Victoria gas winnerGloBird Energy took the home run for offering great value for money. A whopping 90% of Victorians said they’d recommend its plans. GloBird Energy is one of the cheaper energy providers around and has a local customer support team. It offers a bunch of perks based on the type of plan you choose, from offsetting your carbon footprint to saving some more money through conditional discounts.

Alinta Energy has a strong focus on customer service as it boasts local customer support. It also offers discounts through its rewards program as well as the option to get a 12-month subscription to Kayo (worth $360) through its Sports Pack plan.

Queensland electricity winner
Nectr has been voted the number one energy provider in Queensland, with 90% of respondents saying they’d recommend the provider. Nectr offers a range of features including 100% carbon neutral energy, fixed usage rates for the first 12 months and $50 credit when you refer a friend and they sign up.

South Australia electricity winnerRed Energy has topped the charts in South Australia. The provider scored 4 out of 5 or above across the majority of the categories, with 79% of respondents saying they’d recommend it. Red Energy is 100% Australian-owned and operated. It has a local customer support team and offers a bunch of different plans that can earn you Qantas Points or help you support Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Highly commendedOrigin Energy has been voted the second best provider in South Australia by customers. The provider rated highly for its customer service and ease of application, with 88% of respondents saying they’d recommend it. Signing up with Origin Energy can offer you access to a bunch of perks including bundling discounts for energy and internet, live chat support, an app to manage your plan, savings on fuel and the option to earn Everyday Rewards points.

Around 84% of respondents said they’d recommend Alinta Energy, falling just behind Origin. Alinta Energy is 100% Aussie-owned and operated and offers discounts via its rewards store as well the option to get a 12-month subscription to Kayo Basic on its Sports Pack plan.
South Australia gas winnerRed Energy has been awarded the top gas provider in South Australia. Customers gave it a nod for slinging a great range of features and benefits. For example, you can earn Qantas Points and support Breast Cancer Network Australia. It also received big scores for its customer service, with 86% of customers saying they’d recommend the provider.
Highly commendedAlinta Energy cemented its place as a finalist, just behind Red Energy but by a slim margin. It received 4 out of 5 or above across all categories, with 80% of customers saying they’d recommend the provider. It’s 100% Aussie-owned and operated, has a local customer support team and offers discounts via its rewards store as well as a 12-month membership to Kayo Basic on its Sports Pack plan.
Rounding off the list is Origin Energy as our second finalist. It was well regarded by respondents for its customer service and ease of application. Signing up with Origin Energy can offer you access to a bunch of perks including bundling discounts for energy and internet, live chat support and an app to manage your plan.
WA gas winnerAGL took the lead among providers offering gas plans in WA. It scored highly for making it easy for customers to sign up and for offering great value for money. An impressive 98% of respondents said they’d recommend AGL, which is known to sling discounted rates every now and then. You also get access to AGL Rewards for discounts, an app to manage your plan and live chat support.
Highly commendedENGIE (then Simply Energy) came up as a finalist thanks to its strong customer service as well as its value for money. ENGIE offers a number of perks including live customer chat options and a mobile app that allows you to manage your energy use. Overall, 83% of people we asked say they would recommend the provider.
Alinta Energy came in a close third, with 90% of customers saying they’d recommend the provider. It fell just a bit short for value for money compared to AGL and Simply Energy. Signing up with Alinta Energy will get you access to its rewards store for discounts, its 100% Aussie-based customer support team and a 12-month subscription to Kayo on its Sports Pack plan.
