The 2024 Finder Super Funds Awards celebrate Australia's best super funds. We analysed fee and performance data across hundreds of super funds across the following categories: best low fee fund, best balanced fund, best conservative fund, best high growth fund and best shares single super fund.

Methodology: How we determined our Super Funds Award winners

Our team of expert analysts use an objective rating system to determine our super fund award winners. All data is supplied to Finder by superannuation research consultancy SuperRatings. We excluded closed or private funds, and funds which are only offered through specific employers.

We looked at performance over 1, 5 and 10 year periods, fees on $50K balances and the number of investment options.

• Provider of the Year

  Weightings & Eligibility

  • To be eligible for the award, providers must offer products across each of the 5 categories: Balanced, Conservative, Low Fee, High Growth, and Shares.
  • The Provider of the Year Award is weighted evenly between the Product Score and the Customer Experience Score, with each accounting for 50% of the total score.

  Product Score

  We select the products with the highest Finder Score across each of the 5 categories to determine the average product score for each provider. The weightings for each category are provided below.

  • Balanced:
    • Number of Investment Options: 5%
    • Annual fee on $50K balance: 30%
    • Past 1-year performance return: 20%
    • Past 5-year performance return: 35%
    • Insurance and DIY Options: 10%

  • Conservative:
    • Number of Investment Options: 5%
    • Annual fee on $50K balance: 30%
    • Past 1-year performance return: 15%
    • Past 5-year performance return: 40%
    • Insurance and DIY Options: 10%

  • Low Fee:
    • Number of Investment Options: 5%
    • Annual fee on $50K balance: 75%
    • Past 1-year performance return: 5%
    • Past 5-year performance return: 5%
    • Insurance and DIY Options: 10%

  • High Growth:
    • Number of Investment Options: 5%
    • Annual fee on $50K balance: 30%
    • Past 1-year performance return: 15%
    • Past 5-year performance return: 40%
    • Insurance and DIY Options: 10%

  • Shares:
    • Number of Investment Options: 5%
    • Annual fee on $50K balance: 30%
    • Past 1-year performance return: 20%
    • Past 5-year performance return: 35%
    • Insurance and DIY Options: 10%

  Customer Experience Score

  • We assign a Customer Experience Score to each provider, using responses from our annual Customer Satisfaction Survey, in partnership with Dynata.
  • The survey collects responses from Australian consumers and we aggregate the responses across three features - customer service, features and benefits, and reliability and trustworthiness - to determine the average Customer Experience Score for each provider.
  • Our 2024 survey collected responses for 26 superannuation funds.

• Best Low Fee Super Fund

  Selection criteria

  • A – Lifestage funds removed from selection
  • B – Single asset class products are removed from selection
  • C – Only Diversified products are considered

  Presumptions

  • A – Fees are one of the key factors that impact super balance and that is why the lowest fee award category has a higher weighting of 75%.
  • B – Long-term performance is the industry consensus and also our editorial advice for picking a good super fund. That is why the 10-year returns are weighted higher for the low fee category.

  • Annual fee on $50K balance: 75%
  • Past 10-year performance return: 10%
  • Past 5-year performance return: 5%
  • Past 1-year performance return: 5%
  • Number of investment options: 5%

• Best Balanced Super Fund

  Selection criteria

  • A – Investment type must be balanced
  • B – Lifestage funds removed from selection
  • C – Single asset class products are removed from selection and only diversified products are considered

  • A – Long-term performance is the industry consensus and also our editorial advice for picking a good super fund. That is why the 10-year returns are weighted higher for balance category.

  Weighting

  • Annual fee on $50K balance: 30%
  • Past 10-year performance return: 35%
  • Past 5-year performance return: 20%
  • Past 1-year performance return: 10%
  • Number of investment options: 5%

• Best Conservative Super Fund

  Selection criteria

  • A – Investment Type must be conservative
  • B – Lifestage funds removed from selection
  • C – Single asset class products are removed from selection and only diversified products are considered

  Presumptions

  • A – Conservative award and conservative balance awards methodology assume the investment options are suitable for people closer to retirement. That is why the 5-year returns are weighted higher.

  • Annual fee on $50K balance: 30%
  • Past 10-year performance return: 15%
  • Past 5-year performance return: 40%
  • Past 1-year performance return: 10%
  • Number of investment options: 5%

• Best High Growth Super Fund

  • A – Investment Type must be high growth
  • B – Lifestage funds removed from selection
  • C – Single asset class products are removed from selection and only diversified products are considered
