Our verdict

Pros

  • Allianz won a range of Finder's customer satisfaction awards all across Australia because it was so highly rated by its own customers.
  • There are a range of excess options on offer so you can find something that suits your budget.
  • Allianz's home and contents insurance covers up to $7,500 for jewellery — this is higher than many other insurers.

Cons

  • Allianz does not offer underinsurance protection — this is an optional benefit for many other providers.
  • It does not offer a full building replacement option — this is important to some homeowners.
  • Its cooling off period is just 14 days — other insurers have cooling off periods of 21 days and longer.

Horrendous service and time frame home insurance

From the moment of our claim after a storm event it was obvious what they were going to be like to deal with. Impossible to get anyone on the phone, no replies to emails,no phone calls. They use third party loss adjuster that are absolutely shocking when it comes to organisation and communication. It has been 3 months since the initial claim and they still haven’t completed a builder report for the damage. I have lodged complaints which go nowhere no replies. I thought I could be confident and safe putting my property in this companies hands but I was very wrong. Please avoid them and go with another company.

Allianz home insurance

The worse insurance company. I would never recommend this company. Paying allianz like putting your money in rubbish .I had held insurance with this company for years with one minor claim previously. From the moment you make a claim they are searching for reasons not to pay it.The same claim is paying of to others from other companies but Allianz not. They make things difficult. They require endless documentation that I’ve never come across any other insurance company has requested. Even when you supply everything they have requested, they then look at other reasons why the shouldn’t pay.

Worst Insurance company to deal with

I was hit by one of Allianz customer, the guy have me claim number. Whenever i try to call Allianz, i always have to wait 60-70 minute to talk to customer service representative. They arranged a rental which I got after one week of accident. Then it took them another month to assess the cat for damage and get back to me. In the mean time I had to call them every two weeks to extend my rental, with every call I had to wait already an hour to talk to their representative. After 2 months my claim was settled. Then it of no where I was charged $435.6 on my card by their rental partner AVIS. I called AVIS they said "Allianz failed to inform us about rental extension, do we are charging you". I still haven't got that money back. Such a horrid experience and a nightmare which is still not over.

Over 4 months waiting for claim settlement - can't reach them on phone or email to discuss

Lodged a claim after the large rain event in Brisbane in late February 2022. Due to difficulties getting someone on the phone we used their online lodgement process. Had 'make safe' and assessment assigned to a bunch of random tradespeople in the first instance then Johns Lyng after that. Total lack of coordination of assessment and claims between Johns Lyng and Allianz, various make safe people didn't properly make safe and performed cursory assessments only resulting in follow-on damage during subsequent rain events. All the while, we were instructed by the assessors not to attempt a repair as this would invalidate a claim. Our house is livable luckily compared to others, but the mould and water ingress since the damage caused by the rain event is a constant problem, and the damage remains unfixed while we wait for an outcome...any outcome. It is impossible to contact Allianz via phone, I have lost count of the hours I have spent on hold to get this resolved and progressed without speaking to a human, all I have received directly from them are automated emails. Once this is resolved one way or the other, I will never deal with them again mainly due to the extreme difficulty contacting them in an hour of need.

No invoice - yet deduct annual payment

Surprised to find annual fee withdrawn from account yet no communication from NAB or Allianz Australia Insurance. When contacted by phone they claim email sent yet last email correspondence was 26 April 2021. No way you can email them but will talk on phone!!!! Very dissatisfied

Worst claims process ever

Held the policy with them for 6 years and my one and only claim has taken more than 2 months for finalise. I provided all the documents they requested but I am met with so many excuses when it comes to paying up.

I would never recommend this company

I would never recommend this company. I had held insurance with this company for fourteen years with one minor claim previously. From the moment you make a claim they are searching for reasons not to pay it. They make things difficult. They require endless documentation that I’ve never come across any other insurance company has requested. Even when you supply everything they have requested, they then look at other reasons why the shouldn’t pay. Things that are covered in the PDF they refused to cover. I found the constant arrogant customer service beyond belief. This situation is currently With the financial services ombudsman. The policy is not value for money if they refuse to payout claims when the need arises.

Hello we have a house in Moorina Qld Australia that we would like to insure. Our son is currently living there and the home was built around 1980 and is brick veneer. There is also an NBN tower on the property which the land is leased. The property is 9 acres. The tower is about 80 metres from the house and we require it to be covered under the legal liability. Can you do this, and how much?
