Our Verdict: Seniors Home & Contents Insurance

Australian Seniors sells itself as the best insurer for Aussies over 50. At the end of the day, the home insurance needs of seniors aren't that different to the rest of Australia, so that may or not be true.

That said, Australian Seniors home insurance is a pretty solid product, with generally positive reviews of its customers support. It's Essentials Cover product is very basic though, so you'll need to check if it covers everything you need covered.

Pros

  • Both of this provider's policies come with a competitive rate of up to $20,000,000 in legal liability.
  • A higher level of complaints resolved directly with the customer compared to other large insurance companies.
  • Backed by Hollard, one of the biggest insurance companies in Australia.

Cons

  • Be sure to check if the Essential Cover will meet your requirements. The more basic plan doesn't come with accidental damage cover.

I am looking at insuring my building, house including flood cover

      Hi Brad,

      Thanks for your message.

Home insurance with building cover can insure your home’s permanent fixtures, such as your floorboards, cabinets, air conditioning units, and so on. You can compare your options on Finder, with policies that will also cover your home contents.

Importantly, not all home insurance policies will automatically include flood cover. This means you may have to opt-in to get flood insurance, by paying a fee to have it included on your policy. Also, keep in mind that you won’t be able to make a claim on a new policy for weather events that are already taking place. A policy waiting period of at least 72 hours will apply.

If you’re a landlord, you can find more information on your cover options here.

      Regards,
      James

As a senior aged 70, I want to rent out my rooming house to those with mental health issues as there is such a dearth of suitable accommodation in Murray Bridge SA. I am considering housing 4 clients, with required MHServices support. What landlord insurance can you assist with?

      Hi Val,

If you’re asking about Australian Seniors home insurance, they do offer landlord home insurance.

On this page, you’ll find a table that lists their landlord insurance. Make sure you select the “Landlord Insurance” tab found on top of the table.

Click on the “Get quote” button to be redirected to their website where you can get a quote or get in touch with their representatives if you have further questions.

Be sure to read through the terms and conditions of your chosen insurance policy.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards,
      James
