Our expert says

"These are my top 3 practical tips to finding a cheaper home insurance policy:

  1. Compare at least 5 different home insurance policies. This will give you the knowledge and confidence to negotiate a better deal.
  2. Get on the phone.. Talk to your existing insurer and tell them your renewal notice is outside of your budget. Often, they'll drop the price immediately if they think they're going to lose you.
  3. Look for sign up deals and discounts. I've seen insurers offer as much as 30% off for new customers — that could mean hundreds of dollars in savings."
