How much does the Pixel 9a cost in Australia?

Prices for the Pixel 9a start at:

  • $849 for Pixel 9a 128GB
  • $999 for Pixel 9a 256GB

Your colour choices are between obsidian, porcelain, iris and peony.

When did Google release the Pixel 9a?

The Pixel 9a was officially unveiled on 20 March 2025.

It then went on sale on 16 April 2025 after a few delays, which meant there was no pre-order period.

Are there any deals on the Pixel 9a?

Optus and Telstra are offering a $250 discount when you sign up for their 12-, 24-, or 36-month phone repayment plan.

Vodafone has the same offer but on its 24- and 36-month phone repayment plans.

What is the best Pixel 9a plan?

It's hard to pick the best plan since the deals are largely the same across all three telcos.

Vodafone's discount doesn't apply to its 12-month plan, though.

From there, it really comes down to the network coverage you need and any extra perks you're after.

Vodafone has the cheapest phone repayment overall, thanks to its lower-priced SIM-only plans.

However, its network coverage isn't as extensive. Optus sits in the middle, while Telstra is the most expensive but also offers the widest coverage.

Here's a look at all the perks you get between the three providers to help you make a decision.

Optus Pixel 9a plans

Signing up to an Optus Pixel 9a plan will also give you access to:

  • Optus Sport at a discounted price. You'll pay $9.99 per month instead of the usual $24.99
  • Endless data. Your speeds will be capped at 1.5Mbps once you've chewed through your data allowance
  • Data sharing across eligible linked accounts
  • Unlimited international calls and texts to 35 selected destinations (on its Medium plan and above)
  • Up to 10% in savings when you bundle 3 or more subscriptions via Optus SubHub or up to $20 every month on streaming when you sign up to the Large Choice

Vodafone Pixel 9a plans and deals

On a Vodafone Pixel 9a plan, you'll also get:

  • No excess charges. Your speeds will be capped at 2Mbps once you've used up your data allowance
  • 3 months of BINGE for both new and returning customers
  • Unlimited international texts on all plans
  • Unlimited international minutes to Zone 1 countries and 300 minutes to Zone 2 countries on the medium and large SIM-only plans
  • $5 a day roaming to use your regular SIM-only plan overseas

Telstra Pixel 9a plans and deals

With a Telstra Pixel 9a phone plan, you'll get:

  • Access to the largest 4G and 5G networks in Australia
  • No excess data charges. Your speeds will be capped at 1.5Mbps once you've used up your data allowance
  • Unlimited international texts to all countries and at least 30 minutes of free calls
  • Option to earn 10 points for every dollar spent with Telstra Plus, which you can then redeem for products in its Rewards Store.

Is the Pixel 9a worth buying?

You can read my in-depth review of the Pixel 9a, or if you just want the gist, here it is:

I'm kind of obsessed with this phone. It's hands down my favourite mid-range contender to date - and I don't say this lightly.

Performance is great for everyday use, the camera is lovely, and the design is the best I've seen on a Pixel A, at least in my humble opinion.

I will say this, though. If you see the Pixel 9 priced for around the same or even lower, it's worth getting it instead.

Here's a specs comparison of the two phones.
