iPrimus mobile review: Our verdict

iPrimus has a small set of simple plans which are fabulous value if you're after 40GB or more each month.

It is, however, light on plan features so if you're looking for anything like data rollover or access to rewards programs, you could be better off elsewhere.

iPrimus mobile plans could fit you if:

  • You've got higher mobile data needs. iPrimus's smallest plan comes with 40GB a month, going all the way up to 100GB.
  • You're an existing iPrimus broadband customer. You'll get $5 off your Internet bill for each mobile plan you buy with iPrimus.
  • You make a few overseas calls. iPrimus plans come with up to $1,000 international call credit to Zone 1 and 2 countries.

But keep in mind that iPrimus:

  • Charges a $2.95 fee if you don't pay by direct debit.
  • iPrimus offers international roaming, but it's strictly pay-as-you-go. This can end up being extremely expensive, so you might be better off purchasing a local or travel SIM.

Value for money

If you're into higher data mobile plans, iPrimus will make you happy.

Its plans average $0.77 per 1GB of data, which is great compared to a benchmark of $1 per 1GB.

  • Good to know: iPrimus also has a smaller Lite plan offering 10GB for $20. It's only available via the iPrimus call centre, and can only be purchased by existing iPrimus customers.

Things to watch out for:

  • If you choose a payment method other than direct debit, you'll be charged an extra $2.95 for every bill.

coverage icon

Coverage

iPrimus uses the Optus 4G network.
  • This comes with coverage for 98.5% of the population, which is better than Vodafone (96%), but not quite as wide as Telstra's 99.5% coverage.
  • You'll get identical 4G coverage to a mobile plan bought directly from Optus.
  • You shouldn't have any problems in metro areas but you might experience a loss of coverage in rural and regional areas.

Bonus features

iPrimus has a couple of bonus features included in its plans:

🌏 International calls inclusions

All of iPrimus' plans come with $300-$1,000 credit for international calls, letting you ring selected countries. You also get unlimited international texts.

This can be handy if you have friends or family overseas that you like to contact once in a while.

💰 Bundling discount

If you have an active iPrimus broadband account, you'll get $10 off your monthly bill for 6 months.

Which rivals are giving iPrimus a run for its money?

For cheaper plans:

Moose logo

Another provider on the Optus 4G network, Moose sells budget-friendly plans with both low and high data allowances to suit your needs.

For great international inclusions:
Lycamobile logo

Looking for more than just international minutes? Lycamobile offers unlimited international minutes to up to 53 selected countries on most of its plans.

For better coverage:

Boost Logo

Boost Mobile has affordable prepaid plans on the full Telstra 4G network, which reaches 99.5% of the Australian population.
