AI at your service: 3 million Australians are now using ChatGPT
From planning holiday itineraries to writing break-up texts, Aussies are hooked on offloading tasks to ChatGPT, according to new research by Finder.
A Finder survey of 1,079 respondents revealed 15% of Australians – equivalent to more than 3 million people – are now using AI-generated content to simplify their lives.
A staggering 31% of gen Z admit they use ChatGPT in their daily lives, compared to only 9% of gen X.
The research found 6% of Australians are using the tool for their work, while 4% – equivalent to 811,461 people – have used it to write resumes and cover letters.
A further 3% (608,595 people) have used the AI service to write notes for a job interview.
Creating social media posts (2%) and writing blogs for a business or personal website (2%) were also popular uses.
Sarah Megginson, money expert at Finder, said it's like the ultimate life hack.
"Tasks that used to take hours or even days can now be completed in a few commands.
"It can be really useful for those simple tasks, and free people up to do things that they'd rather be doing."
Interestingly, almost half a million Australians (2%) have used ChatGPT to write an assignment, while 2% have used the chatbot to generate text messages and letters to their partner.
Megginson said in some cases ChatGPT can do things better and quicker than a human could, and AI is challenging the status quo.
"It's like having a free personal assistant to do the things you don't enjoy doing.
"For instance, one of my friends used it to create a meal plan for the week ahead, and then compile a grocery list of ingredients. She then compared this list against what she already had and added the rest to her grocery list.
"It can take a few prompts and a bit of work to get the outcome you want, but there's definitely some benefits to that 'mental load' we all carry when we balance work, family, friends and managing all of our obligations."
