Why we’d rather fly first class than join the mile-high club
Join Points Finder at Frequent Traveler University to learn how to reach that goal.
It's official: on a plane, we'd rather be bumped up to first class than bump uglies.
Getting to fly in first class is our top flying ambition, with 23% of us picking that, a new finder survey of 2,033 Australians revealed. Second place goes to receiving any kind of free upgrade (17%), followed by flying in business class (11%) and flying for free on points (7%). Joining the "mile-high club" was only picked by 5% of us.
To be fair, one might be the precursor to the other. Your chances of sky-high shenanigans are a lot higher if you're only sharing a bathroom with a handful of other passengers and said bathroom actually has enough room to swing the proverbial cat (ahem). Should you be lucky enough to have a fully private option like Etihad's First Class Apartment, then sex is practically compulsory.
I've flown first class quite a few times, and business class more times than I can count. However, I'm not yet a member of the mile-high club. But hey, you can't tick off all your bucket list in one go, right?
If you're looking to speed up your trip to the pointy end of the plane, here's a handy tip. On November 17 and 18, Frequent Traveler University (FTU), a two-day seminar crammed with tips on earning points, spending points and living the high life, is taking place in Sydney. I'm going to be one of the speakers, covering how to maximise the points you earn from credit cards and the most common mistakes Australian frequent flyers make.
After running in the US since 2010, this is FTU's second seminar in Australia. I attended the first in Brisbane back in April, and I can thoroughly recommend it.
The regular price for the two-day event (including all sessions and lunch on both days) is $299, but you can score an early bird $20 off if you sign up before 10 October. Just use the code GETITNOW when you sign up on the FTU site. Hope I see you there!
Angus Kidman's Findings column looks at new developments and research that help you save money, make wise decisions and enjoy your life more. It appears regularly on finder.com.au.
