Even though their costs have gone up, there's extra data and 5G access to sweeten the deal from More and Tangerine.

More and Tangerine are changing their SIM only mobile plans.

As is the case with most mobile providers recently, the cost of the plans is going up, but you're also getting additional data.

Some plans are also now getting full 5G network access, when previously it was only available on a trial basis or restricted to the most expensive plan.

Mostly known for its collaboration with Commonwealth Bank, More's mobile plans are going up in price. But you do get additional data, with a wider range of plans now 5G-accessible too.

While a price rise isn't anything to be excited about, you actually get a better cost per GB on most of More's plans with its new range.

In the one instance where you're worse off on the cost per GB (on the 32GB plan), it now has 5G access instead of via a trial only.

There's also a change on More's discounts for CommBank customers.

Previously you could get 30% off its SIM only plans for 12 months, but now the offer is you get your first 3 months free instead, then 10% off ongoing.

What's happening with Tangerine's mobile plans?

Much like More, even with increasing of price of Tangerine's plans, you can see the added data makes it a better deal in some cases.

For most of its plan changes, the extra data available means you're getting a better price per GB of data. The only instance where the cost per GB of data went up is the 32GB plan, but this plan is now also 5G.

Keep in mind you'd need a compatible handset and be in a 5G coverage area to take full advantage of the 5G plan.

All the plans have their download speeds capped at 100Mbps, except for the 150GB plan, which is capped at 250Mbps. This isn't too drastic, with most plans on the Telstra network having their speeds capped in recent months.

Are More and Tangerine mobile plans still worth it?

More and Tangerine have joined the ranks of many other mobile providers that have changed their plan prices as of late.

They join others on the Telstra mobile network that have done similar, such as Belong, Boost, Everyday Mobile and even Telstra themselves.

Against the benchmark of $1 per GB you should be aiming for, the More and Tangerine mobile plans with the lower amounts of data don't quite stack up.

But, like with most providers, the larger the data plan you get, the more value for money you receive, and the new plans beat this benchmark if you get 50GB of data or more.

The biggest hit comes if you were a CommBank customer and taking advantage of the 30% off deal with More. Now you'll be paying extra in the long run on their plans.

Depending on which level of data you had, it will cost between $8 to $16 more in your first year with the change in deal for CommBank customers.

Can you get a better deal on the Telstra network?

As More and Tangerine use the Telstra mobile network, there are other providers out there that would provide the same coverage, but how do their plans compare?

We looked at some of the other major providers on the Telstra Network and have listed their cheapest options for SIM only plans.

As you can see there are variations in price and data, so you'd need to see what fits your budget and how much data you use each month to see which plan is right for you.
